School Bus GPS Tracker Installation

A GPS tracker mounted out of sight under the dash shows the district where every school bus is, when it reached each stop and the route it actually drove. We install hardwired trackers on school buses across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

Where does the tracker go on a school bus?

Behind the dash panels, away from the driver's reach and out of sight of students. A tracker tucked up under the dash cannot be unplugged by a curious hand or kicked loose by a boot, and it stays dry when the floor is mopped out. We hardwire it to constant power, ignition and ground rather than relying on a plug-in port, so it keeps reporting for the life of the bus.

What does the transportation office see?

When a parent calls asking where the bus is, the office can answer in seconds instead of radioing the driver.

Why hardwire instead of plugging in?

Plug-in trackers are quick to fit, but on a school bus they are easy to pull, easy to knock loose and often end up in the way of the driver's feet. A hardwired install takes longer, but it is permanent, hidden and keeps reporting whether the bus is running or parked. On older buses without a usable diagnostic port, hardwiring is the only clean option.

We take power from a fused source, confirm the ignition signal with a meter, and land the ground on clean metal, so the tracker never loses its connection on a rough road.

What else can the tracker record?

The tracker is the hub that the rest of the bus equipment reports through. Warning lights, the stop arm, the wheelchair lift, driver ID and student ridership readers can all feed into it, so each stop shows not just where the bus was but what happened there.

How do we install around the school schedule?

Buses run in the morning and the afternoon, so installs happen while they are parked: after the afternoon run, between routes, or on teacher workdays and school breaks. We work in your bus lot, so nobody has to deliver buses anywhere.

Who uses school bus GPS tracking?

Public school districts, private and charter schools, contractors that run routes for districts, and church and activity bus fleets. Any operator who gets the call asking where the bus is can use it. See everything we install on a bus on our school bus tracking page.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.

Common questions

Questions We Get Asked

Can parents see where the bus is?

That depends on the tracking platform the district uses. Many offer a parent app or alerts, and the tracker we install provides the location data those apps rely on.

Will the tracker drain the bus battery?

A properly wired tracker sleeps when the bus is parked. We wire it to the correct power and ignition sources so it does not run the battery down over a weekend.

Which tracker brands do you install?

Every major brand, including Geotab, Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect, Azuga, Zonar, Lytx and Netradyne.
