At every school bus stop, the amber lights warn traffic the bus is about to stop and the red lights tell traffic to stop. A record of both, at every stop, shows that drivers followed the procedure. We wire warning light status into GPS trackers for school districts and bus contractors across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

School buses carry amber and red warning lamps at the top front and rear. The driver activates the amber lights as the bus approaches a stop. When the door opens, the system switches to red lights and extends the stop arm. The sequence is controlled by the bus's warning light system, which provides clean signals for amber and red that can be read by a tracker through isolated inputs.
Wire references are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
Transportation departments train drivers on the warning light sequence because it protects children crossing the road. A record of amber and red at each stop lets supervisors confirm the procedure was followed, investigate complaints and support drivers when a motorist disputes what happened.
Combined with route data, the records also show stops that take longer than planned and stops where lights were used outside the route, which helps routing staff tune schedules and stop locations.
After the install, we run the full stop sequence with the bus parked, amber then red with the door open, and confirm each change shows on the platform before the bus goes back on its route.
Warning lights are usually recorded with the stop arm, door and wheelchair lift status. See our school bus tracking page.
Public school districts, private school bus contractors, charter schools, Head Start programs and special needs transportation providers.
This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
