Wheel Loader GPS Tracker Installation

Wheel loaders work long shifts at quarries, aggregate and sand yards, recycling centers, sawmills, farms and job sites, and much of their day is spent waiting on the next truck. We install GPS trackers and telematics gateways on wheel loaders of every size and brand across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi, on site where they work.

Why track a wheel loader?

For most wheel loader owners, tracking is about hours and idle time more than theft. A loader at a yard spends a lot of its day running while it waits on trucks, and that time burns fuel and counts toward service intervals the same as real work. Owners who see work time and idle time side by side often find machines that could be shut down, moved or shared.

Engine hours drive the service schedule, tire and component costs build with every hour, and companies with more than one yard or job need to know where each loader is. Theft still happens too. Equipment theft reports include wheel loaders among stolen loaders, so after-hours movement alerts are worth having.

Where does a tracker go on a wheel loader?

A wheel loader bends in the middle. The front frame carries the arms and bucket, the rear frame carries the engine and usually the cab, and the two pivot on a center joint when the machine steers.

We keep the tracker and every wire on the rear frame with the cab and power, and never route new wiring across the articulation joint, where constant flexing wears it through. Inside the cab or behind a protected panel, we pick a spot away from heat and dust with a view of the sky, or fit an external antenna where the roof blocks the signal. Loaders at quarries and aggregate yards live in fine dust, so connections are sealed.

How is a wheel loader tracker powered?

Pinouts and wire colors are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Will a tracker work with my loader's scale or factory telematics?

Many loaders carry an onboard bucket scale or the manufacturer's own telematics. A GPS tracker install does not need to touch either one, and we keep our wiring separate from them.

Factory telematics can share basic data like location and hours with fleet platforms through the AEMP 2.0 standard, also published as ISO 15143-3, but that data is limited and updates slowly. An aftermarket tracker puts the loader on the same platform as the trucks and other machines, with the same alerts and reports.

What does a wheel loader owner see once it is installed?

What other heavy equipment do we track?

We install trackers on every kind of machine on a job site. See heavy equipment GPS tracking for the full list, or go straight to a machine: skid steers  ·  dozers  ·  excavators  ·  backhoes  ·  cranes.

Common questions

Questions We Get Asked

Can tracking reduce idle time on wheel loaders?

Tracking shows exactly how much time each loader spends idling, which is what owners need to set rules and see whether they are followed. The reduction comes from what the owner does with the data.

Do you install at quarries and yards?

Yes. We install on site at quarries, aggregate and sand yards, recycling centers, farms and job sites across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

Will the install affect my bucket scale?

No. We keep tracker wiring separate from scale and factory systems.

Do you install on compact wheel loaders?

Yes. Compact loaders are installed the same way, often on a 12 volt system, and are worth tracking for theft as well as hours.

Which tracker brands do you install on wheel loaders?

Every major brand, including Geotab, Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect, Azuga and Zonar. Pick the platform your fleet uses and we install it on your machines.
