A cargo door opening is either a delivery or a problem. A door sensor wired into the GPS tracker records every opening with a time and place, for delivery, service and freight fleets across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

Most cargo door sensors are magnetic switches. One half mounts on the door frame and the other on the door. When the door opens, the switch changes state and the tracker records an event. Roll up doors, swing doors and side sliding doors each need a slightly different mount. Trailers use the same idea with a sensor wired to the trailer tracker.
Wire references are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
For delivery fleets, a door event at each stop supports proof of delivery and helps answer customer questions. For service fleets carrying expensive tools and parts, after hours door alerts catch break-ins while the thief is still there. For cold chain fleets, door open time affects load temperature and quality.
Door data also helps with driver coaching. Doors left open while driving, or opened far from the scheduled stop, are easy to spot on the map and easy to address before they cost the fleet a load.
After the install, every door is opened and closed with the vehicle parked and then while the truck idles, to confirm each event shows on the platform and that a firmly closed door always reads closed.
Door sensors pair with door lock control, liftgate monitoring and temperature sensors. See van and box truck sensor tracking.
Parcel and last mile delivery fleets, food and beverage distributors, service and trades vans, pharmaceutical and medical couriers, and trailer fleets.
This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
