Van & Box Truck Sensors: Doors, Seat Belts and Liftgates

On delivery and service vans, the useful records are small: when the doors opened, whether the driver was buckled, when the liftgate ran. We wire these signals into the tracker, so they show with every stop.

Fleet installs from $65 per vehicle. Testing a few vehicles first? We do pilot installs too.

What do we monitor on vans and box trucks?

Each picture shows the part that gets wired into the tracker, circled in red. These are illustrations, not photos of customer trucks. The sections below explain how each one is monitored.

How is a cargo door monitored?

A door switch or the vehicle's own door circuit goes to a tracker input. The platform records when the cargo doors opened and where, which delivery and security fleets use to spot doors opened away from a stop.

Can door lock status be tracked?

Yes. The lock actuator circuit can be read by the tracker, showing when doors were locked and unlocked.

How does seat belt monitoring work?

Many trackers read belt status from the vehicle's data. Where they cannot, the belt switch is wired to an input. Either way the platform records driving unbuckled, which most fleet safety programs want.

Can liftgate use be recorded?

Yes. The liftgate's power or switch circuit records each use, stop by stop. See also liftgate integration.

What about equipment inside a van?

Truck-mount carpet cleaners and similar van equipment have their own engines or power circuits. Their run signal records machine hours at each job.

What does the office see once it is wired in?

How do we wire and test it?

We meter every signal before we use it, so the tracker records the equipment actually working, not a switch that was only requested. Power connections are fused, wiring is secured away from heat and moving parts, and each input is tested with the equipment running before the truck goes back out. Wire colors for the truck side are in our Vehicle Wiring Database. See all the equipment we monitor for the other trucks and equipment we wire in.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

Every major tracking platform can record door, belt and liftgate signals, and we wire them into all of them. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
