PTO and equipment monitoring

Log Loader Monitoring

A truck mounted log loader lets a logging truck load itself in the woods without waiting on separate equipment. We wire the loader into the GPS tracker so loader hours and loading locations are recorded, for logging contractors and timber haulers across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

How does a log loader work?

A truck mounted log loader is a knuckle boom crane with a grapple, mounted behind the cab or at the rear of a log truck. Outriggers stabilize the truck while the operator, often seated in a chair on the loader, picks logs and loads them onto the bunks. The loader runs on hydraulics from a PTO.

What can be monitored?

Truck side wire colors are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Why does it matter?

Logging contractors are paid by the load or ton delivered to a mill, and loads have to be traced back to the tract they came from. A record of loading location and time supports load tickets and helps keep wood flowing to the right mill. In remote woods, where cell coverage is thin, trackers that store data and send it when coverage returns are the right choice.

Loader hours also matter for maintenance. Slewing rings, grapple rotators, cylinders and hoses on a log loader take a beating, and they wear by use rather than by the miles the truck drives to the mill. Tracked PTO hours give the shop a real schedule for greasing, inspection and hose replacement.

What goes wrong in the woods?

What else on a logging crew can be tracked?

Skidders, feller bunchers, chippers and trailers can carry their own trackers, so the whole operation is visible on one map. See our tree service and logging tracking page and our heavy equipment tracking page.

Who uses log loader monitoring?

Logging contractors, timber haulers, pulpwood producers and land clearing companies across the Southeast timber belt.

Where can I see other PTO and equipment monitoring?

This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
