Azuga 512GB SD Card

The 512GB card is the largest Azuga sells. Bigger is not automatically better, so this page is about when it earns its price.

What the shop says

The Azuga shop lists a 512GB SD card, part number SD-512GB, at $150. It describes a high-grade card for extended video recording on SafetyCam devices with fast data transfer. It lists no speed class and no brand.

The math

CardPricePrice per gigabyte (our division, rounded)
128GB$50about $0.39
256GB$80about $0.31
512GB$150about $0.29

The 512GB card is the cheapest per gigabyte, but the gap from the 256GB card is only about two cents per gigabyte. You pay $70 more per card for it. On a fleet of twenty that is $1,400 for capacity Azuga has not told us you need.

Where 512GB is a ceiling

  • SafetyCam Plus: Azuga lists 512GB as the largest supported card, so this is the limit, not a headroom.
  • Earlier AI SafetyCam: Azuga describes 512GB as the maximum, and calls the card industrial.
  • SafetyCam Pro: Azuga lists up to 2TB, so 512GB is well inside the limit.

When it is worth it

We would consider it where a vehicle records for very long periods and nobody can reach the card often, for example a unit that stays in a remote yard. That is a judgement call and not an Azuga recommendation. Azuga has not published how long a card of any size lasts, so the case rests on the customer's own use.

Quality over size

A dash camera writes to its card nearly all day. Cards wear out as they are written, and a cheap card of any size can fail early. Azuga calls its card high-grade, and for the earlier AI camera it uses the word industrial. That is a reason to buy from the Azuga shop, not a general store, until Azuga confirms an approved list. A big card from an unknown source is a larger loss when it fails.

Before you order

  1. Confirm the camera model and its maximum card size.
  2. Ask the customer how often the camera records and whether the card is easy to reach.
  3. Ask Azuga whether 256GB would do. If the answer is yes, buy that.

Where to go next

Questions we get

Does 512GB hold four times as much as 128GB?

In raw capacity, yes. Azuga has not published recording time for any size, so we cannot turn that into hours.

Is the 512GB card too big for a Plus?

No. Azuga lists 512GB as the maximum for the Plus. It cannot go larger.

Will a larger card slow uploads?

Azuga does not say. Event video goes to the cloud afterward, and size on the card is not described as affecting that.
