What it is

The AI SafetyCam, also written "Standalone AI SafetyCam," is the earlier generation of Azuga's dash cam line. It is a self-contained unit with a touchscreen, two lenses, its own SIM, and a speaker. It is the camera that came before the SafetyCam Plus and Pro.

Azuga's knowledge base later calls the 2020 camera the "AI SafetyCam" and "Standalone AI SafetyCam." The model number is not published on those pages.

Compared with the Plus and Pro, this camera records at a lower resolution and publishes fewer specs. In exchange it is a one-piece unit that you can read at a glance, because the screen tells you what is going on.

How it is powered

Azuga recommends the OBD-II Y-cable. The other options are a hardwire to the fuse box, and a cigarette-lighter adapter. Plain USB is out. After power-up, run it 30 to 60 seconds and allow up to 5 minutes for a stable connection.

The hardwire guide has a quirk worth knowing: use a constant fuse only, ground to unpainted bare metal, and use the add-a-fuse in the kit with the camera in slot 1 and the vehicle fuse in slot 2. Azuga also notes that when the OBD tracker is paired with a SafetyCam, it must be the 4G LTE version, which Azuga identifies by a product code starting with DCM970.

Aiming it

Mount it on the mirror (recommended) or with the suction cup, as high as possible on the driver side and inside the wiper sweep. The driver's upper body should be visible and nothing should block the in-cab lens. Loosen, but do not remove, the three security screws on the round side. The body aims the road lens and the ring aims the in-cab lens. Tighten them again, and both lenses will tilt together. Check local rules on objects on the windshield first.

A strong fit

A fleet that already runs these and wants more of the same, or one that values a screen on the camera so a driver can see its status.

Plan ahead

Buying new today. Azuga's current pages point to the Plus and Pro, so ask Azuga whether the AI SafetyCam is still the right choice for you.

Where to go next

Is the AI SafetyCam still sold?

The Azuga menu now shows only "Dual-Facing AI Dashcam," and the Pro and Plus launched in April 2025. But the Azuga shop still sold AI SafetyCam accessories when we checked on 2026-10-21, and the help center still documents it, so Azuga was still supporting it. Whether new units are for sale: not verified.

Why does the shop say Surfsight AI12?

The Azuga shop labels some AI SafetyCam accessories "Surfsight AI12." That suggests the hardware comes from Surfsight. No Azuga page states it, so we treat it as not verified.

Does it have status lights?

Azuga says its install guides do not document LEDs for this camera. You read status on the touchscreen instead, from the signal bars.

Can I power it from USB?

No. Azuga says USB power is not supported. Use the OBD-II Y-cable, a hardwire to the fuse box, or the cigarette-lighter adapter.
