Spreader Controller Integration with GPS Tracking

A spreader controller decides how much salt or sand goes on the road. Connecting it to the GPS tracker, where the controller supports it, turns every storm into a record of material applied by location. We set up spreader controller connections for public works and highway fleets across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

What does a spreader controller do?

A spreader controller sits in the cab and runs the conveyor or auger and spinner on a salt or sand spreader. Most modern controllers adjust the output to ground speed, so the application rate per lane mile stays steady as the truck speeds up and slows down. Many also handle blast, pre-wet liquid and different material settings, and keep their own totals of material used.

How does a controller connect to a tracker?

Before quoting, we confirm what your controller and tracking platform support. Chassis wire colors are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Why connect the controller?

On and off signals show where the spreader ran. Controller data goes further: how much material went down, at what rate, on which roads. That supports material budgets, salt reduction goals and reports to elected officials, and it shows when a truck is applying more than the route needs.

What goes wrong?

Who uses controller integration?

City and county public works, state highway departments and larger private contractors. The spreader itself is covered on our salt spreader monitoring page, and the plows on our snow plow tracking page.

Where can I see other PTO and equipment monitoring?

This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.

Common questions

Questions We Get Asked

Can my spreader controller send data to my GPS tracker?

Some can, depending on the controller model and the tracking platform. We check before quoting. On and off monitoring works on almost any truck.

Will it record how much salt was used?

Where the controller shares material totals with the platform, yes.
