Seat belts are the simplest safety rule in any fleet and one of the hardest to check. Wiring the seat belt signal into the GPS tracker records unbuckled driving with time, location and speed, for fleets across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

Every modern vehicle has a seat belt switch in the driver's buckle that tells the dash warning light whether the belt is fastened. On many vehicles the tracker can read belt status from the vehicle's diagnostic data without extra wiring, depending on the vehicle and tracker. On others, especially older and heavy vehicles, the buckle switch circuit is metered and read through an isolated input. Some fleets also add a passenger belt signal.
Wire references are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
Seat belt use is one of the strongest factors in surviving a crash. Fleets with a belt policy need a way to see whether it is followed. A record of unbuckled driving, with speed and location, gives safety managers something specific to coach, and it supports the company if a crash investigation asks the question.
Fleets often find that unbuckled driving clusters around short trips and job site moves, where drivers feel the belt is not worth it. The data makes that pattern visible so training can target it.
Belt data works alongside speeding, harsh braking and in-cab camera events. Together they give a complete picture of driver safety habits. See van and box truck sensor tracking.
Any fleet with a seat belt policy: service and delivery fleets, utilities, municipalities, school and transit fleets and companies working with their insurers on safety programs.
This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
