Panic Button Installation

A panic button gives a driver a way to call for help without picking up a phone. One press sends an alert with the vehicle's live location to the people who need to respond. We install panic buttons with GPS trackers for police, transit, delivery, utility and lone worker fleets across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

How does a panic button work?

A panic button is a momentary switch wired into an input on the GPS tracker. When pressed, the tracker sends an emergency event to the platform, which can notify supervisors, dispatch or a monitoring center by text, email, app alert or on screen, along with the vehicle's location. Many platforms keep tracking at a faster rate after a panic event so responders can follow the vehicle.

Where should the button go?

The button has to be reachable by the driver from a normal seated position, but not where it gets pressed by accident. Under the dash edge, beside the seat or on the steering column shroud are common choices. Some fleets want it hidden so it cannot be seen from outside the vehicle; others want it obvious. We agree the location with the fleet before installing, and route the wiring away from airbags and pedals.

Wire colors and mounting references are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Who needs panic buttons?

What makes a panic button reliable?

How does it fit with other safety features?

Panic buttons pair well with in-cab cameras, which can save video around the moment of the press, and with driver ID. Police fleets often add emergency light and gun lock signals. See our police and emergency vehicle tracking page.

What should a fleet decide first?

Who receives the alert, how fast they respond, and whether law enforcement is called automatically or by a supervisor. The technology is simple; the response plan is what makes it work.

What other PTO and equipment monitoring do we install?

This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
