A live floor trailer unloads itself, and the unload is the moment the load is delivered. We put trackers and unload sensors on live floor trailers so every unload is recorded at the right place and time, for waste, wood chip, mulch, compost and agricultural haulers across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

A live floor trailer has a moving floor built into its bed. Hydraulic cylinders push sections of the floor back and forth in a pattern that walks the load out of the rear doors, so the trailer can unload without tipping. Live floor is a common name for the same idea as a walking floor, and many haulers use the terms interchangeably. The hydraulic power usually comes from a wet kit on the tractor, driven by a PTO.
Our walking floor trailer monitoring page covers the hydraulic side in detail. This page focuses on tracking the trailer itself when it moves between tractors.
Live floor fleets often drop and hook trailers, with more trailers than tractors. A PTO signal on the tractor shows that some trailer was unloaded, but not which one. A tracker on the trailer, with its own unload sensor, keeps a record that follows the trailer wherever it goes and whoever pulls it.
Power options for trailer trackers are covered on our trailer GPS tracker page, and tractor wiring in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
Many live floor loads are paid per delivered load to a specific mill, plant, landfill or farm. A dated, located unload record backs up every ticket and shows quickly if a load was dumped somewhere it should not have been. Trailer location also helps dispatch find empty trailers and cut deadhead miles.
This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
