A hydraulic power unit on a truck runs the tools that crews use every day: breakers, impact wrenches, chainsaws, pumps and pole tampers. We wire the HPU into the GPS tracker so its hours and job sites are recorded, for utility, railroad, water and service fleets across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

A hydraulic power unit, or HPU, is a pump, reservoir and controls that supply hydraulic flow and pressure to handheld and mounted tools through hoses. On trucks, the pump is driven in one of three ways: by a PTO on the transmission, by the truck's existing hydraulic system shared with a crane or lift, or by its own small engine. Water and gas utilities, railroads and municipal crews rely on HPUs because hydraulic tools are powerful and tolerate wet, dirty work.
Truck side wire colors are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
HPUs need oil, filter and hose service on hour schedules, and the pump can run for hours while the truck sits at a water main break or a track repair. Truck miles say nothing about that wear. Tracked HPU hours put the service on the right clock.
Work records benefit too. Utilities and railroads report repair work by location and duration. A record of HPU time at each site supports those reports and crew time sheets.
Most HPU trucks also carry a generator, an air compressor or a crane. Each can be wired to its own input, so the platform shows which piece of equipment ran and for how long. That gives owners a full picture of how each truck is used, which helps when deciding what equipment the next truck really needs.
Water and gas utilities, railroads, municipal public works, telecom crews and rental fleets. The full service body is covered on our service truck tracking page.
This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
