A dump body sensor tells the GPS tracker whether the bed is down or raised. That one signal records every dump and warns when a truck drives with its body up. We install dump body sensors on dump trucks and dump trailers across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

The sensor is usually a proximity or tilt switch mounted where the bed rests on the frame. With the bed down, the switch reads one way; as the bed lifts, it changes. Wired into an input on the tracker, it creates a dump event with a start, an end and a location. Some setups use a tilt sensor on the body instead, which works on beds that do not sit firmly on a frame rail.
On many dump trucks the PTO is engaged for other reasons too: a plow, a spreader or a tailgate. PTO time alone overstates dumping. The body sensor records the bed actually rising, which is the event the customer, the dispatcher and the safety manager care about.
The body sensor also separates real dumps from false starts. A driver may raise the bed a little to loosen a stuck load or check a hoist, and the platform can be set to count only lifts past a certain point or longer than a set time, so the load count stays honest.
The switch is mounted where the body closes it every time without crushing it and where material cannot pack around it. The cable runs along the frame in loom, away from the hoist and exhaust, and every connection is sealed. We test by raising and lowering the bed and confirming each event on the platform. Chassis wire colors are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
Tandem and tri-axle dump trucks, end dump and side dump trailers, roll-off and municipal dump bodies, and landscape trucks. See our dump truck tracking page for the whole truck.
This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
