Dump Truck GPS Tracking: Load Counts and Bed Up Alerts

Dump truck owners are paid by the load and hurt by the bed that gets left up. We wire the dump body into the tracker on dump trucks and tractor dump trailers, so each dump is counted at the right place and a raised bed raises an alert.

Fleet installs from $65 per vehicle. Testing a few vehicles first? We do pilot installs too.

What do we monitor on dump trucks?

Each picture shows the part that gets wired into the tracker, circled in red. These are illustrations, not photos of customer trucks. The sections below explain how each one is monitored.

How does a GPS tracker count dump truck loads?

The dump body hoist runs from the PTO. Each time it engages, the platform records a dump with the time and location. Matched to a job site or a pit, that becomes a load count, which is how haulers on hourly or per-load work check their tickets.

How is a tractor dump trailer monitored?

On a tractor pulling a dump trailer, the hydraulics come from a wet kit on the tractor's transmission. The wet kit's PTO signal records each dump, the same way as a straight dump truck.

What does a dump body up sensor do?

A body up sensor is a switch that closes when the bed leaves the frame. Wired to a tracker input, it shows when the bed was up and alerts if the truck is moving with it raised. Driving with the bed up is how dump trucks take out power lines and overpasses.

What does the office see once it is wired in?

How do we wire and test it?

We meter every signal before we use it, so the tracker records the equipment actually working, not a switch that was only requested. Power connections are fused, wiring is secured away from heat and moving parts, and each input is tested with the equipment running before the truck goes back out. Wire colors for the truck side are in our Vehicle Wiring Database. See all the equipment we monitor for the other trucks and equipment we wire in.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

Every major tracking platform can record dump body signals, and we wire them into all of them. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
