Drilling Rig Truck Monitoring

A truck mounted drill rig earns its money with the mast up and the drill turning. We wire mast and drill signals into the GPS tracker so every boring is recorded, for water well, geotechnical, environmental and foundation drillers across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

How does a truck mounted drill rig work?

Illustration, not a customer photo.

A drill rig on a truck carries a mast that is raised to vertical at the drill site, a rotary head that turns the drill string, and a hydraulic system that pushes, pulls and rotates the tools. Leveling jacks steady the truck before the mast goes up. Power comes from a PTO on the truck engine on many rigs, or from a separate deck engine on larger ones.

What can be monitored?

Truck side wire colors are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Why does it matter?

Drilling is billed by footage, time or both, and geotechnical and environmental borings must be located precisely. A record of where the rig set up, when the mast went up and how long it drilled supports field logs and invoices. It also helps schedule rigs across multiple sites.

Rotary heads, mast cylinders and hydraulic pumps on a drill rig are serviced by hours of use. A rig can drill all day without moving a mile, so tracked drilling hours are the only honest clock for that maintenance.

What goes wrong?

How does it fit with other equipment?

Drill crews often run a support truck and a water truck alongside the rig. All can be tracked together. See our oilfield and drilling truck tracking page for oilfield equipment and our water truck monitoring page.

Who uses it?

Water well drillers, geotechnical engineering firms, environmental consultants, foundation and pile contractors and mineral exploration companies.

What other PTO and equipment monitoring do we install?

This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
