A bucket truck earns its money while the boom is in the air, so the record that matters is not just where the truck parked but how long the bucket was up. We wire the boom stowed switch, outriggers and PTO into your GPS tracker so every job shows its boom time, across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

A bucket truck is a work truck with a hydraulic boom and an enclosed bucket at the tip that carries one or two workers up to overhead lines, poles, trees, signs and streetlights. Utility and line clearance bucket trucks usually have an insulated boom to protect the worker from energized lines.
The boom pump is usually driven by a PTO on the transmission, and most units set outriggers before the bucket goes up. Those three things, the PTO, the outriggers and the boom leaving its rest, are the signals we wire into the tracker.
Wire colors for the chassis side are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
Each stop on the map shows how long the outriggers were down and how long the boom was up, so a stop where the boom never went up stands out as travel or waiting rather than work. Managers use this to answer billing questions on storm and contract work, to check overtime against real time aloft, and to schedule hydraulic service by PTO hours instead of road miles. The signals are simple on and off inputs, so they work with trackers that have auxiliary inputs. How the reports look depends on how your platform names and shows those inputs.
For aerial lift and scissor lift trucks as well, see our bucket truck and aerial lift tracking page.
Electric utilities and cooperatives, telecom and cable contractors, line clearance tree companies, sign and lighting contractors and city public works departments.
During storm restoration, a live view of which buckets are up and which trucks are rolling helps dispatch send the closest free crew, and the boom time record backs up the hours billed afterward.
This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
