PTO and equipment monitoring

Air Compressor Truck Monitoring and GPS Tracking

A service truck air compressor runs tools, fills tires and powers equipment on job sites, and it is serviced by its own hours, not the truck's miles. We wire the compressor into the GPS tracker so every hour of use is counted and every job site is on record, for service, utility and tire fleets across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

How is a service truck compressor powered?

Truck mounted air compressors come in a few types. Some are driven by a PTO from the truck transmission, either directly or through a hydraulic pump and motor. Some run from the truck's hydraulic system shared with a crane. Others have their own small gas or diesel engine and run independently of the truck. Rotary screw compressors are common on larger service trucks, and reciprocating compressors on lighter ones.

The signal we monitor depends on the type: the PTO engaged signal, the hydraulic system, or the compressor engine's run circuit.

What can be monitored on a compressor truck?

Truck side wire colors are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Why does compressor time matter?

Compressors need oil, filter and separator service on an hour schedule, and those hours pile up while the truck sits still on a job. Fleets that service by truck miles fall behind. Tracked compressor hours put every truck on the right schedule from one screen.

It also cleans up idle reports. Service trucks often run the engine to drive the compressor, and a plain tracker calls all of that idle time. With the compressor signal wired in, real work and real waste are separated, and drivers are not blamed for running the equipment they were sent to use.

What goes wrong with compressor monitoring?

Who uses compressor truck monitoring?

Mechanic and field service fleets, tire service trucks, utility and telecom crews, construction contractors and rental companies. Other service body equipment, like generators and welders, is covered on our service truck tracking page.

What other PTO and equipment monitoring do we install?

This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.

Which GPS tracking brands do we install?

We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.

Common questions

Questions We Get Asked

Can a GPS tracker count air compressor hours?

Yes. With the PTO, hydraulic or compressor engine run signal wired in, the platform counts compressor hours separately from truck hours.

Can it alert if the PTO is left on while driving?

Yes. Many platforms can alert when the PTO is engaged above a set speed.

Does it work on compressors with their own engine?

Yes. We take the run signal from the compressor engine instead of the truck.

Do you install in my state?
