Every fall, residents want to know when the leaf truck is coming and whether it came. We wire the leaf vacuum into the GPS tracker so every street collected is recorded with a time and place, for city and county public works across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

A leaf vacuum, or leaf loader, uses a powerful fan to suck leaves through a large intake hose and blow them into a dump body or enclosed box. The fan is usually driven by its own engine on a trailer or truck mounted unit, and sometimes by a PTO on the truck. Many units also shred leaves as they pass through the fan, which packs more into each load.
Chassis wire colors are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
Leaf collection generates a lot of calls. A map of streets where the vacuum ran, with dates, lets staff answer quickly and accurately, and it can feed a public map so residents see progress. Supervisors can balance routes across trucks as the season goes on.
Leaf vacuum engines and fans work hard for a few months a year, and tracking hours helps plan service before the season and between passes.
Some cities post collection progress online each day. A tracker record of where the vacuum actually ran is a reliable source for that map, much better than a schedule that slips when the weather turns.
City and county public works and sanitation departments with seasonal leaf collection programs, along with contractors hired to run them. Year round vacuum trucks are covered on our vacuum truck monitoring page.
This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
