A belly plow, also called an underbody scraper, hangs under the middle of a heavy truck and scrapes packed snow and ice that a front blade rides over. We wire the belly plow into the GPS tracker so highway crews can see where it was down, across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

Because the blade sits between the front and rear axles, the truck's weight presses it hard into the road. That makes a belly plow good at cutting compacted snow and ice that a front plow alone leaves behind. It is lowered and raised by hydraulic cylinders from the truck's central hydraulic system, and many trucks run it together with a front plow and a wing.
Chassis wire colors are in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
Underbody scraping is usually done on routes where ice is the problem: bridges, hills and high traffic roads. A record of where the belly plow was down shows highway departments which roads got ice treatment beyond plowing, which helps when reviewing a storm and planning salt use.
Belly plow cutting edges and carbide inserts wear quickly. Hours of blade-down time help maintenance plan edge changes before a storm instead of during one.
State highway departments, county road crews and large municipal fleets with heavy plow trucks. Belly plows are less common on private contractor trucks. For the whole snow fleet see our snow plow tracking page.
This is one of the work truck and equipment applications we wire into GPS trackers. See all of them on our PTO and equipment monitoring page, and find wire colors for your truck in our Vehicle Wiring Database.
We wire PTO monitoring into trackers from all of these brands. Need heavy duty trackers for trucks or heavy equipment? Every brand below makes them, so pick yours and we install it.
