What it is

The shop says this part connects auxiliary devices to the SafetyCam Pro through the vehicle OBD port and provides power and data. It does not give a length, a pin count or a connector type. At $80, it costs more than three of the Pro power cables put together, so be sure you need it.

How it fits into the aux system

Azuga's auxiliary camera guide says up to four cameras connect to the Pro through a four-channel splitter, labelled TVI-1 to TVI-4. On an OBD-II install, the splitter goes through a Y-cable. This connector is the part the shop sells for that OBD side. Azuga does not draw a picture of the exact chain in the shop listing, so we recommend you read the guide and ask Azuga to confirm the full parts list for your count of cameras.

Count the cameras first

CamerasWhat to plan
One side domeAzuga's guide gives the dome a 5 m cable. May need no extension.
One rear squareAzuga's guide gives the square a 10 m cable. A long box may need more.
Two to fourEach camera needs its own run to the splitter. Plan every route before you order.

Azuga lists the dome as side-mounted and the square as rear-mounted. The cameras themselves were not in the shop listing we reviewed, so ask Azuga about camera prices and what ships with a Pro order.

Checks before you order

  • Route. This is the OBD part. If the Pro is hardwired, you want the hardwire aux connector instead.
  • The tracker. Azuga says the OBD device on the other Y-cable leg should be 4G LTE, in its AI SafetyCam guide. We have not seen it repeated for the Pro. Ask.
  • The port. Everything now hangs off one diagnostic port. Make sure the connection is secure and the cable is routed out of the driver's way.
  • Ignition behavior. Azuga does not say how aux cameras behave with the ignition off on the Pro. On the earlier AI SafetyCam it says feeds do not stream with the ignition off.

When it is worth the money

An aux camera pays off when the vehicle has a blind side, a rear door or a loading area the road camera cannot see. If one road and driver view covers the job, skip the aux system and the $80. Every extra camera is another cable to route and another point that can fail.

Where to go next

Questions we get

Is this the same as the hardwire aux connector?

No. They are separate parts at the same $80 price. One is listed for the OBD route and the other for hardwire. Match the one to how the main Pro is powered.

Does it include the splitter?

The shop text does not say. Ask Azuga whether the splitter, the Y-cable and the cameras come with it.

How many cameras can it run?

Azuga lists up to four exterior cameras on a Pro through the splitter. The shop text for this part does not give its own limit.
