Geotab HRN-SIFUSETAP Harness

The HRN-SIFUSETAP is a Geotab fuse tap harness that powers a starter inhibit relay by tapping an existing vehicle fuse through a matching fuse interrupter, so the starter circuit can be controlled without cutting factory wire.

What Is the HRN-SIFUSETAP?

The HRN-SIFUSETAP is a Geotab fuse tap harness that supplies power to a starter inhibit relay by tapping an existing fuse in the vehicle's fuse panel, used together with a compatible fuse interrupter so the factory wiring stays intact. Geotab's install guide pairs it with the IOX-KEYLESS starter inhibit setup on a GO9.

The idea is simple: instead of finding, cutting and soldering the starter wire, our technicians pull the starter fuse, plug in an interrupter, and let the harness relay sit in that circuit. When the truck leaves the fleet, the interrupter comes out and the original fuse goes back in.

Which Vehicles and Devices Does the HRN-SIFUSETAP Work With?

The identification table describes the HRN-SIFUSETAP as the fuse tap harness for the Geotab Relay Kit, providing non-destructive power to the starter inhibit relay through an existing fuse, and says it is used with a compatible fuse interrupter harness. Its length is 100 cm (39.4 in), it is made in Taiwan, and no replaced part is listed.

Geotab's step-by-step guide fills in the rest. The parts list is a GO9, an IOX-KEYLESS, this harness, one fuse interrupter chosen by fuse type, and an HRN-GS16K2-LD standard 16-pin T-harness kit for the GO device. An HRN-GX04S6 2 m extension is optional where the IOX-KEYLESS needs to mount further away. According to the guide, the harness kit itself includes a black fuse holder with fuses, a relay, a yellow ignition pigtail, a flying-lead harness, a chassis ground ring terminal, a black 10-pin Molex and a white 2-pin Molex.

What Problem Does It Solve on the Job?

Cutting a starter wire is permanent, and many fleet managers, leasing companies and vehicle owners do not want factory harnesses spliced. The fuse-tap route answers that objection. The starter inhibit still works, the Keyless booking still controls who can start the truck, but the change is reversible and leaves no splices behind.

It also speeds up installs across mixed fleets. Once the starter fuse is identified on a model, the same interrupter style can be used on every matching vehicle, without diagram hunting for wire colors at each truck.

How Is the HRN-SIFUSETAP Installed?

Geotab rates the job as moderate and asks for wiring diagram access. Our technicians work through it like this:

  1. With the vehicle parked and stationary, open the fuse panel.
  2. Using a multimeter, find the starter fuse and its hot side, and note whether it is constant or switched. Confirm that pulling it stops cranking, does not kill a running engine and leaves no lasting dash codes.
  3. Fit the matching interrupter, connect its black wire to the hot side, and join the white 2-pin Molex connectors. Put a fuse of the original rating in the harness fuse holder.
  4. If the hot side is switched ignition, connect the yellow lead's black Molex at the interrupter. If it is constant, run the yellow pigtail to a verified true ignition source instead.
  5. Fix the ring terminal to chassis ground, checking behind before drilling.
  6. Insert the relay, route the harness clear of pinch points, and plug the 10-pin Molex into the IOX-KEYLESS, adding the HRN-GX04S6 if needed.
  7. Mount the IOX-KEYLESS with two or more cable ties and bundle any spare length.
  8. Connect the IOX-KEYLESS to the GO9, tie the plug in its grooves without over-tightening, and install the GO9 with the HRN-GS16K2-LD.
  9. Start the vehicle, wait for all three LEDs to go solid with ten beeps, and complete MyInstall until it shows Pass.

What Should You Watch for When Fitting It?

The fuse test decides everything: a fuse that stops cranking but also shuts down a running engine is the wrong one, and using it could strand a vehicle. Geotab forbids interrupting fuel, brake switch or multiplexed circuits and warns about auto stop-start engines restarting at a light. The yellow lead must never touch constant power or the relay will flatten the battery. Use cable ties on both sides of any extension at the diagnostic connector, and keep everything clear of airbags and pedals.

Which Related Harnesses Should You Compare?

  • HRN-CX10S4: the Keyless starter inhibit harness that splices directly into a cut starter wire.
  • HRN-INTX2S1MINI: the mini fuse interrupter used with this harness.
  • HRN-INTX2S1MICRO2: the micro2 fuse interrupter for newer fuse panels.
  • HRN-GS16K2-LD: the light-duty 16-pin T-harness kit the guide uses for the GO9.

What Are Common Questions About the HRN-SIFUSETAP?

Do we need to cut the starter wire with the HRN-SIFUSETAP?

Not when the fuse-tap method works on the vehicle. The harness connects through a fuse interrupter in the starter fuse slot. Geotab's guide keeps a hardwired option with the flying-lead harness for vehicles where the fuse route is not suitable.

Which fuse interrupter goes with the HRN-SIFUSETAP?

The one that matches the vehicle's fuse style: HRN-INTX21ATC for ATC, HRN-INTX2S1MINI for mini, HRN-INTX2S1LPM for low-profile mini, or HRN-INTX2S1MICRO2 for micro2.

Where does the yellow wire on the HRN-SIFUSETAP connect?

To a true ignition source that is live in ON/RUN and START and dead in ACC and OFF. Geotab warns against connecting it to constant power, because the relay would drain the battery.
