Geotab HRN-INTX2S1MINI Harness

The HRN-INTX2S1MINI is Geotab's fuse interrupter for regular Mini blade fuses, installed in a Mini fuse position so the Geotab Relay Kit can switch that circuit and provide starter inhibit.

What Is the HRN-INTX2S1MINI?

The HRN-INTX2S1MINI is a Geotab fuse interrupter harness for standard Mini blade fuses; it lets the Geotab Relay Kit open and close a Mini-fused circuit to provide starter inhibit. Geotab rates it for Mini fuses up to 30A and describes it as needing no permanent modification to the vehicle.

It is one of four INTX interrupters, each cut to a single fuse body. The Mini version is the one to reach for when the fuse in your chosen position is a regular Mini, the taller of the two Mini styles. The other members of the family handle ATC, Low-Profile Mini and Micro2 fuses.

Which Vehicles and Devices Does the HRN-INTX2S1MINI Work With?

Geotab publishes no make, model or year list for this harness. The deciding factor is the fuse: if the start-related circuit picked for inhibit is protected by a Mini fuse of 30A or less, this is the matching interrupter. Its named partner is the Geotab Relay Kit.

Several limits come from Geotab's relay kit material rather than the interrupter listing. The relay kit is not for push-button start vehicles, its support covers GO6 and newer devices, and Geotab's starter inhibit guide is restricted to internal combustion vehicles, excluding hybrids and battery-electric models. In that guide, an IOX-OUTPUTM on the GO device's expansion port drives the relay. The interrupter itself has no listed replacement part or required harness, no maximum connected cable length, and Taiwan as country of origin.

What Problem Does It Solve on the Job?

Starter inhibit is usually requested for security or policy reasons: stopping a vehicle from being started without authorisation, or tying start-up to driver identification. The question for the install is how to get the relay into the circuit. Cutting and soldering the starter wire works, but it adds labour, needs sealing against moisture, and leaves a permanent repair in the harness. Placing an interrupter in a Mini fuse position does the same job from the fuse panel.

For fleet managers, the result is a removable install that can be undone when a lease ends. For our technicians, it means less trim removal and less time with tools under the dash.

How Is the HRN-INTX2S1MINI Installed?

Geotab provides a specific install item for this interrupter, which our technicians follow. The overall flow, based on Geotab's relay kit starter inhibit guide, is:

  1. Park the vehicle, key off, and unplug the GO device before any relay wiring, per Geotab's relay kit document.
  2. Work out from wiring diagrams which Mini-fused circuit controls cranking. Make sure it is not multiplexed and cannot stop a running engine.
  3. Remove the Mini fuse from that slot and fit the HRN-INTX2S1MINI there, consistent with Geotab's note that the part replaces an existing Mini fuse.
  4. Wire the interrupter to the relay kit, fit the relay that matches system voltage, take the yellow ignition lead to a true ignition source through a fuse, and ground to the chassis.
  5. Reconnect and secure the GO device and harnesses with cable ties, confirm it is reporting in MyGeotab, and log the install in MyInstall.
  6. Test by activating the relay with the ignition on (no crank), releasing it (normal crank), and activating it with the engine running (engine must stay running).

Where the GO device connects to the diagnostic port, Geotab's harness rules apply: 2 m (6.5 ft) total length at most and no chaining of T-harnesses.

What Should You Watch for When Fitting It?

Regular Mini and Low-Profile Mini fuses can look alike from above, and the wrong interrupter will not seat properly. Lift the fuse out before ordering and confirm its body height. On a mixed fleet, survey every vehicle rather than assuming identical panels across model years. Keep the relay's ignition feed off the battery and off constant power, which Geotab's guide forbids, and do not use the starter wire as the ignition source. Relay work on this kit is restricted by Geotab to installers who are both licensed automotive electricians or mechanics and Certified Geotab Advanced Installers, or equivalent.

Which Related Harnesses Should You Compare?

  • HRN-INTX2S1LPM: the Low-Profile Mini version, for the shorter Mini fuse.
  • HRN-INTX21ATC: the standard ATC blade version, rated higher at 40A.
  • HRN-INTX2S1MICRO2: the Micro2 version for panels with narrow two-blade fuses.
  • SPR-RELAYKIT: Geotab's relay kit listing with its 12V and 24V relays.

What Are Common Questions About the HRN-INTX2S1MINI?

Which fuse does the HRN-INTX2S1MINI replace?

Geotab lists it as replacing an existing Mini fuse, rated up to 30A, in the position chosen for starter inhibit. Low-Profile Mini, Micro2 and ATC fuses each have their own interrupter.

Do we need the GO device and an IOX module as well?

In Geotab's relay kit guide the relay is controlled by an IOX-OUTPUTM connected to the GO device, so the interrupter is one piece of a larger starter inhibit setup rather than a stand-alone product.

Can a fleet mix fuse interrupter types across vehicles?

Yes. The interrupter is chosen per vehicle by the fuse in the selected position, so a mixed fleet may need Mini parts on some units and other INTX parts on others. We record which one each vehicle takes during the survey.
