The GO9B shows its status through three LEDs (red power, blue GPS, green cellular) and a buzzer that counts out each setup stage. It is the GO9-family unit for older J1850 vehicles, and this page plays every pattern.
A GO9B gives two kinds of feedback. Red, blue and green LEDs show power, satellite fix and cellular link, and its buzzer counts out setup stages in short bursts. A light that blinks is still working on something; a light that holds steady has finished. Tap any button below to see it and hear what it means.
🔊 The GO9B uses lights and beeps. Turn your sound on.
Easy way to remember it: Six, hello. Two, still working. Ten, all done. Then red, blue and green all sit steady.

Each button plays the pattern on the GO9B above, says out loud what it means, and tells you what to do.
| Light | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Red dark | No power, or engine off | Test power at the diagnostic port |
| Red blinking | Powered, update waiting | Normal on install day |
| Red steady | Powered and updated; on later drives, engine on | None |
| Blue dark | No satellite fix | Engine on, then wait |
| Blue blinking | Receiver on, fix not found | Move out from under roofs and trees |
| Blue steady | Fix found | None |
| Green blinking | Modem on, network not joined | Try an area with stronger cell service |
| Green steady | Network joined | None |
| Beeps | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Six fast | Power found | Turn the engine on |
| Two fast, each minute | Provisioning running | Keep the engine running |
| Ten fast | Provisioning finished, reboot coming | Check it in MyInstall |
| One short | Engine seen on a later drive | None |
| One long | Satellite fix on a later drive | None |
| Two, then three | Network joined on a later drive | None |
Geotab also lists a buzzer test mode that sounds diagnostic beeps to validate the GPS and wireless links.
Fleet owners see the GO9B through MyGeotab. It logs trips, faults and battery voltage, and its 2 GB of storage holds data recorded out of coverage until the vehicle reconnects, which suits rural routes. On older trucks with no usable engine data, intelligent ignition uses voltage and movement to tell when the vehicle is running. Parked, it sleeps at about 4.5 mA on a 12 V system.
Drivers hear the buzzer when the fleet turns on in-cab coaching for speeding, harsh driving or idling. Retiring a vehicle? Have the unit removed and the asset closed so the GO9B can be reinstalled in its replacement.
The GO9B uses GO9-family harnesses, not the X-series kits built for the GO10's different connector. On older vehicles the choice depends on the port:
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| North American model | GO9-LTMB, LTE Cat M1 |
| Size and weight | 78 x 52 x 26 mm, 60.2 g, PC+ABS |
| Indicators | Ignition (red), GPS (blue) and cellular (green) LEDs |
| Buzzer | Above 85 dBA at 10 cm; diagnostic test mode |
| Current draw | 60 to 300 mA at 12 V; sleep 4.5 mA at 12 V, 3.0 mA at 24 V |
| Legacy protocols | J1850 PWM and VPW, J1708 (pins 2 and 10), J1587, OBD1, K-line |
| Satellites | 92 channels; GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou together |
| Storage | 2 GB eMMC |
| Temperature | -40 to +85 °C |
| IOX | Up to 5 modules, up to 2.75 A |
If the unit stays dark, check the fuse and meter power and ground at the port before blaming the GO9B. Wait for the ten beeps, then get a pass in MyInstall with VIN and odometer entered. Tie the device and harness to the connector on both sides, because Geotab warns vibration can loosen a joint left unsecured. On a three-wire job, switch the ignition off and on to prove intelligent ignition wakes and sleeps the unit. Never install or remove it with the vehicle moving.
Six, hello. Two, still working. Ten, all done. Six beeps greet you when it gets power, two beeps each minute mean setup is still running, and ten beeps mean it finished. At that point red, blue and green should all be steady.
Some older vehicles talk over J1850 PWM or VPW, which Geotab's newest GO device does not support. The GO9B does, with Geotab listing its J1850 and J1708 interfaces on diagnostic pins 2 and 10, so it can still pull engine data on those vehicles.
Geotab treats a unit that does not power on and beep six times at first plug-in as an install that needs an authorized installer. Usually the cause is power at the port, a blown fuse or a harness fault, and our technicians test those on site before swapping any hardware.
