Geotab HRN-DS06T2-A Harness

The HRN-DS06T2-A is a 60 cm (24 in) 6-pin Deutsch T-harness that moves the GO device under the dashboard while leaving the truck's diagnostic connector available for other uses. Geotab lengthened it so no install pack is needed.

What Is the HRN-DS06T2-A?

The HRN-DS06T2-A is a heavy-duty T-harness for trucks with a standard 6-pin Deutsch diagnostic connector, built so a GO device and a diagnostic tool can share the same port. Geotab describes its purpose in two parts: relocate the GO device under the dashboard, and keep the Deutsch connector available for other uses.

Geotab also notes a revision. The harness is now 60 cm (24 in) long, and at that length it can be installed without a separate install pack. For whoever orders parts, that means one item per truck instead of two. It replaces the earlier HRN-D6THD.

Think of it as the shop-friendly answer for a 6-pin truck. Mechanics who connect their diagnostic software to the port every service interval do not have to unplug the telematics to do it, and the fleet does not lose tracking data while the truck is in the bay.

Which Vehicles and Devices Does the HRN-DS06T2-A Work With?

It fits North American heavy-duty trucks fitted with the standard 6-pin Deutsch diagnostic connector. In Geotab's cheat sheet, that connector shows up on some heavy trucks from 1997 to 2007 and on some Ford F650-and-up and Freightliner medium-duty vehicles, and the HRN-DS06T2-A is the part it lists for the 6-pin era, including 1997 to 1999 heavy trucks.

Device fit is the part to get right. The cheat sheet lists this harness against GO9, and it states plainly that GO10 does not support older vehicles with a 6-pin connector. Where a fleet wants a GO10 on one of these trucks, Geotab points instead to a three-wire HRN-XCW03K3 install with an IOX-CLAMP. We confirm the device plan for every 6-pin truck before booking the job.

What Problem Does It Solve on the Job?

Fleets with in-house mechanics feel the difference between a straight harness and a T almost immediately. With a straight 6-pin harness, the technician has to find the telematics plug, disconnect it, run diagnostics and remember to reconnect it afterward. Forget that last step and the truck goes dark on the map. The HRN-DS06T2-A removes the whole routine, because the factory port stays live on its own branch.

It also tidies up the cab. Rather than a device dangling at the port, the GO device moves under the dashboard on its own lead, where it is out of the driver's sight line and away from feet. On older trucks that are being kept on for years, that small change cuts the wear and accidental unplugging that otherwise build up over time.

The shorter 60 cm body helps on compact cabs, too, because there is less spare cable to coil and secure.

How Is the HRN-DS06T2-A Installed?

Start with the truck stationary and switched off. Locate the 6-pin port, check it for corrosion or damaged pins, and note how it is held in place so the factory connector can be put back securely afterwards.

Plug the harness's male 6-pin into the truck's port and lock it. Decide where the open pass-through connector will live: it needs to be somewhere a mechanic can reach with a diagnostic cable, typically close to the original port position, and fastened so it does not hang loose. Run the GO device lead under the dashboard, connect the device, and orient its antenna side upward.

Secure everything with cable ties: the device, the device lead and the pass-through connector. Geotab's limits are firm on two points. The connected harness length must not exceed 2 m (6.5 ft), and a T-harness must never be connected to a second T-harness, even when the combined length would fit. Finish by starting the engine, waiting for the device to come up, checking its LEDs, and running the MyInstall check so the asset reports in MyGeotab.

What Should You Watch for When Fitting It?

Mount the pass-through so it is reachable but not dangling; an unsupported connector swinging under the dash will eventually loosen the pins at the T junction. Do not hang a second T-harness or a splitter from the open port, since Geotab prohibits T-to-T connections. Tell the maintenance team which connector is the pass-through so nobody unplugs the GO device by mistake. And before ordering, confirm the device generation, because this part is not the route for a GO10.

Which Related Harnesses Should You Compare?

  • HRN-DS06S4: the 100 cm straight 6-pin harness that covers the port fully and offers more reach.
  • HRN-GS09K2-A: the universal T-harness kit for trucks with the later 9-pin Deutsch port.
  • HRN-XCW03K3: the GO10 three-wire kit that Geotab lists for 6-pin trucks when paired with an IOX-CLAMP.

What Are Common Questions About the HRN-DS06T2-A?

Why is the HRN-DS06T2-A described as not needing an install pack?

Geotab lengthened it to 60 cm (24 in), and at that length it can be fitted without a separate install pack.

Can a mechanic still use the 6-pin port with this harness installed?

Yes. It is a T-harness, so the Deutsch connector stays available for other uses while the GO device runs on its own lead.

Which older part does the HRN-DS06T2-A replace?

Geotab lists it as the replacement for the HRN-D6THD.
