A tracker for trailers and containers that Azuga says can run 8+ years on battery. Here is what is documented and where the gaps are.
Azuga lists a Solar Asset Tracker, model GL601MG, on its asset management page. Its headline claim is up to 8+ years of battery life. FleetOwner describes it for assets that have no power of their own: trailers, containers and other non-powered equipment.
FleetOwner ran a product spotlight on it on August 11, 2026. That write-up says it runs up to 8 years on battery, can be recharged for another 6 to 8 years, uses LTE Cat M1 and NB2 cellular plus GPS, and logs trip start and end, geofence crossings and idle time.
| Tracker | Power | What Azuga says |
|---|---|---|
| Solar Asset Tracker GL601MG | Battery with solar charging | Up to 8+ years of battery life |
| Long-Life Asset Tracker GL502A | Battery only | Rugged, IP68, 3 to 5 years depending on ping rate (GL502 article) |
| Rechargeable Asset Tracker GV620MG | Hardwired 8 to 32 V with internal battery | Up to 120 days on its internal battery |
The pattern is simple. The more power the tracker can draw from the asset, the more often it can report. The GL601MG is the walk-away option for something that sits in a yard for years.
| Source | Claim | Type of source |
|---|---|---|
| Azuga asset page | Up to 8+ years | Azuga |
| FleetOwner, Aug 11, 2026 | Up to 8 years, then 6 to 8 more if recharged | Trade press |
| Queclink GL601 launch notice | About 5 years at daily pings, about 5 months at hourly pings | Maker of the base model, not Azuga |
| GPS reseller listing for GL601MG | Up to 10 years standby | Reseller |
Why the numbers differ
A tracker that reports once a day lives far longer than one that reports every hour. None of these sources gives a ping rate for the 8+ year claim. Azuga has not published the default reporting interval for this tracker, so treat 8+ years as a best case until Azuga tells you the interval it assumes.
These facts come from the maker's launch notice for the base GL601 and from a reseller page for the GL601MG. They are not Azuga statements. Check each one with Azuga before you rely on it.
We could not find an Azuga help article for the GL601MG. That means no published lights, no activation steps, no mounting rules and no portal confirmation steps. The technical page turns that into a list of questions you can send to Azuga.
Trailers, containers and equipment that sit unpowered for long stretches, where nobody wants to service a battery.
Anything that needs frequent location updates, anything that cannot be checked once installed, and any order you place before Azuga hands you written install steps.
Azuga says up to 8+ years of battery life. FleetOwner reports up to 8 years on battery and a further 6 to 8 years if it is recharged. The maker's own launch notice for the base GL601 model talks about about 5 years at daily pings and about 5 months at hourly pings. Those numbers are not in conflict once you see that battery life depends on how often the tracker reports.
We could not find one. Azuga's help center has full install guides for the GL502 and GV620MG asset trackers, but we found no article for the GL601MG. Ask Azuga for the install steps in writing before you buy a quantity.
Azuga has not published them where we could find them. We will not draw lights that nobody has documented. The technical page lists what to ask Azuga.
No. Azuga lists it for assets without power, such as trailers and containers. Vehicles with a power source are better served by the OBD-II or hardwired trackers.
