SafetyCam Plus, technical information

Lights, driver-facing voice alerts, power draw and the mount steps that apply to the Plus.

← Back to SafetyCam Plus

Technical sheet for the SafetyCam Plus. The lights are the same as the Pro, so this page spends its time on the driver-facing alerts, the power numbers and the mount steps that are specific to the Plus.

Lights: the Plus and Pro share one guide

One guide, two cameras

Azuga's LED page says the patterns apply to both the Plus and the Pro. The older article that contradicts the solid blue meaning is shown at the bottom so you can compare. If the camera and the portal disagree, believe the portal.

Sound: the driver-facing alerts

The Plus watches the driver and talks to the driver. These are the in-cab phrases from Azuga's event list. Tap one to hear it read aloud. The road alerts are on the Pro technical page, and the whole list applies to both cameras.

Driver-facing alerts

Your browser reads the phrase out loud. It is not the camera's own voice, so tone and volume will differ. Azuga says in-cab voice alerts are on by default and customers can change them. Phrases are from Azuga's Next-Gen SafetyCam events article.

Azuga lists over-the-air update prompts at power-up. It says customers can change the in-cab voice alerts. The dash cam page also says the audio can be turned off.

Power numbers

ItemValue
Supply12 V or 24 V, minimum 2 A
Standby drawAbout 32 mA
Active drawAbout 225 mA at 12 V
Hardwire colorsRed is constant 12 V, yellow is switched 12 V, black is ground to bare chassis metal
Hold-up after power loss5 F supercapacitor, about 12 seconds

With add-a-fuse, the original fuse goes in the bottom slot (slot 2) and the camera fuse goes in the top slot (slot 1). Reverse them and Azuga says power may be blocked. Test which side of the fuse slot is powered, because the outer blade must face the powered side. Crimp terminals and pull-test them.

A camera that has sat in a box may be fully drained. Azuga says to charge it from a 2 A source first. Then, on first power-up, wait about a minute for the update prompts and do not unplug it.

Use the lights as a quick check at the vehicle, then confirm in the portal that the camera shows Online. A red flashing light after you close the cover is a prompt to reseat the SD card. A solid red light is not a fault when you have just pressed the button.

Mount steps specific to the Plus

  1. Near the rear-view mirror on the driver side, without blocking the view or either lens.
  2. Alcohol wipe, then press the plate for 30 seconds. Wait at least 15 minutes before the camera goes on.
  3. Slide the camera on until it clicks, then tighten the hex screw.
  4. Fit the SD and SIM cover.
  5. Remove the lens film. Run the cable along the headliner and down the A-pillar.
