What it is

Azuga ELD, also sold as Azuga eLogs, is an add-on to Azuga Fleet for drivers who must record hours of service. Azuga says it covers hours of service and driver vehicle inspection reports for the US and Canada, in English, French and Spanish, and supports a bring-your-own-device setup. Azuga describes the hardware as a GPS tracker with wireless communication that connects to the engine.

This page is mostly about being clear on what is and is not known. The ELD is where a fleet's compliance risk lives, so we hold it to a stricter standard than the other pages.

The two versions

The install guide covers an OBD II version, called the "Azuga ELD Device," and a JBus version for heavy trucks. A separate guide exists for Canada. The OBD II kit includes an extension cable and an OBD Y-cable. For the JBus version, a 16 pin port takes the device directly, a 6 pin or 9 pin port uses a cable, and an occupied port uses the Y-cable. For cable details see the JBus cables page.

How a driver connects

Azuga's blog says the ELD uses Bluetooth LE and that the app finds it automatically, with no trip into the phone's Bluetooth settings. The driver pairs it in the Azuga Fleet app, and the ELD app on iOS and Android is named "Hours of Service ELD." The install guide itself does not mention pairing, and Azuga's separate driver pairing article does not cover the ELD, so the blog is the only source for this.

An older history to know about

When Azuga launched its ELD in 2017, trade press described a dash-mounted 8 inch tablet for drivers and a web app for the office. A directory also lists a tablet-based "Azuga E-Logs" entry. That is dated. We could not confirm what hardware ships today beyond what is on this page.

Good fit and what to plan for

A good fit

Fleets already on Azuga Fleet that need hours of service logging for a few trucks and prefer one platform and one bill.

Plan ahead

Fleets where hours of service is the main reason to buy should ask Azuga which ELD hardware and add-on plan apply, and get the answer before install day.

Where to go next

Is the Azuga ELD approved by the FMCSA?

Azuga says its ELD meets FMCSA 395.15 requirements for hours of service and driver vehicle inspection reports. The FMCSA does not approve devices. Makers self-certify and register them on a public list. We could not read Azuga's entry on the official list, so we have not verified it. Third-party directories show Azuga entries, and the list is linked from Azuga's own page for checking.

What hardware is the Azuga ELD?

Azuga does not name the ELD hardware on its ELD page. The Transport Canada list shows "Azuga ELD with Geometris WhereQube Series 87." We have not verified that this is the same unit as the "Azuga ELD Device" in the install guide.

How much does the Azuga ELD cost?

ELD and driver vehicle inspection reports are add-ons to the base plans. Ask Azuga for the current price.

Does the Azuga ELD make a sound?

No Azuga page we read mentions a speaker or beeps. That is silence in the documents, not a statement that it has none.
