Geotab IOX-BUZZ Technical Information

The IOX-BUZZ shows its status only by sound: it has no lights and repeats every GO device beep at up to 75 dBA. This page plays the documented sounds, explains them, and covers specs, mounting and install checks.

How Do You Read the IOX-BUZZ Sounds?

There is nothing to watch on this module. The IOX-BUZZ is a loud external speaker for the GO device, with no LEDs documented, and every sound it makes copies a beep the GO device is already playing. Which beeps play, and when, comes from the feedback settings and rules in MyGeotab. Tap any button below to see it and hear what it means.

🔊 The IOX-BUZZ has no lights. It speaks only in beeps. Turn your sound on.

Easy way to remember it: Buzz means a rule fired. MyGeotab sets the rhythm. Quiet means no alert, or feedback is switched off.

What Do the IOX-BUZZ Sounds Mean?

SoundMeaningWhat to do
Steady beeping while driving fastSpeed indicator: the vehicle is over the set speed, and it stops only below the lower off speedSlow down
One brief beep at speedSpeed warning mode, which swaps steady beeping for a short oneEase off the throttle
Beeping while parked and runningIdle limit passed; three minutes unless the office changed itShut the engine off
Short beep groups, such as threeA MyGeotab rule with beep feedback firedAsk the office which rule plays that pattern
Six rapid beeps at power-up (GO9 family)The GO device detected powerNothing; normal at install
SilenceNo alert, feedback off, or buzzer disabled for that GO deviceHave our technicians check settings if alerts are expected

Geotab publishes no beep codes of the buzzer's own and no exact timings for feedback beeps, so the player's rhythms are approximate.

What Does a Normal Install Look Like, Minute by Minute?

  • Pick the spot. The buzzer goes where the driver will hear it; Geotab points to an open area under the dash as a good choice.
  • Connect with the GO unplugged. The lead plugs into the GO device's expansion port and its zip tie is snug, not tight.
  • Fasten it. Screws or a zip tie go through both mounting holes; tape only on properly prepared surfaces.
  • Power-up. The GO device goes back in and the engine starts immediately, putting the unit into debug mode.
  • First trips. A new GO device beeps in troubleshooting mode for its first two trips, and the buzzer carries those beeps too.

How Do You Use the IOX-BUZZ Day to Day?

Drivers simply listen. When the vehicle passes the set speed, idles too long or breaks a rule with beep feedback, the IOX-BUZZ repeats the GO device's beep loud enough to cut through road noise. Nothing on it needs pressing or resetting.

The office controls everything it says. Speed beeps use an on speed and a lower off speed, idle beeping uses a minutes setting, and rules pick their own beep feedback. One master setting disables the GO device's buzzer completely, which silences the IOX-BUZZ as well, so check it first when a truck goes quiet.

What Does the IOX-BUZZ Plug Into?

It needs no vehicle harness. The buzzer takes power and CAN data from the IOX expansion port on any GO7 or newer device, and passes both on through its female socket to the next module. Notes for planning:

  • On the GO9 RUGGED, Geotab requires the IOX-BUZZ before beep mode is available at all.
  • Geotab's GO10 documentation still lists the IOX-BUZZ as coming soon.
  • It can share a chain with modules such as the IOX-NFCREADERA or IOX-GOTALK; only the last module keeps its termination shunt.
  • A GO9 can feed the whole chain up to 2750 mA, and the buzzer uses at most 100 mA of that.

What Should Installers Check Before Leaving an IOX-BUZZ?

Sit in the driver's seat with the engine running and the blower on, and make sure the power-up or troubleshooting beeps are plainly audible from there. Confirm the buzzer is fastened through its holes rather than hanging on the lead, and that nothing will rattle against it. Look at the shunt: gone if another module follows, present and zip tied if the buzzer ends the chain. Before handing back the keys, confirm in the device settings that the master buzzer setting is not disabled, otherwise the new hardware will never make a sound.

What Are Common Questions About the IOX-BUZZ's Sounds and Setup?

What is the easiest way to remember how the IOX-BUZZ works?

Buzz means a rule fired, and MyGeotab sets the rhythm. The buzzer has no beep codes of its own; it repeats whatever the GO device plays, only louder and closer to the driver.

Why is the buzzer silent when drivers are clearly speeding?

Either the speed beeps were never switched on for that vehicle, or the master buzzer setting for the GO device is disabled, which stops driver feedback of every kind. Our technicians check the device settings and the rules together.

Does a GO9 RUGGED need an IOX-BUZZ?

Yes, if the fleet wants audible alerts. Geotab states that GO RUGGED units need the IOX-BUZZ before beep mode is available, so without one those devices stay quiet.

If drivers say they never hear their alerts, our technicians can relocate or add the buzzer, test it from the driver's seat and confirm the feedback settings while on site. To book that visit, dial 803-513-1009 or open Get a Quote.
