The HRN-GS16K2-HD is Geotab's universal 16-pin OBD-II T-harness kit for 24 V heavy-duty vehicles such as commercial trucks and buses, used with GO devices from before the GO10. It does the heavy-vehicle job without the extra HRN-CG13S1 adapter.

The HRN-GS16K2-HD is a heavy-duty 16-pin OBD-II T-harness kit for 24 V commercial trucks and buses, built for Geotab GO devices that came before the GO10. In the box are the HRN-BM16T2-HD T-harness and six mounting adapters. Geotab created it, together with the light-duty version, to replace the single universal HRN-GS16K22-A.
The reason that split matters to a heavy fleet comes down to one extra part. The universal kit needed an HRN-CG13S1-A adapter in line on every 24 V vehicle. This kit removes that requirement, so a heavy-vehicle install has one fewer piece to buy, one fewer joint to secure and one fewer thing to forget.
Geotab specifies this harness for 24 V heavy-duty vehicles, naming commercial trucks and buses, and states that light-duty vehicles need the LD version. It connects at a 16-pin OBD-II port and is 63 cm (24.8 in) long. The device end suits GO units from before the GO10; GO10 fleets use the HRN-XGS16K2-HD instead.
Geotab lists it as replacing the HRN-GS16K22-A, and the entry states plainly that the HRN-CG13S1 adapter is not required. A CARB Executive Order identification sticker ships in the bag for USA vehicles and belongs under the hood.
School buses, shuttle buses and medium trucks with a rectangular 16-pin port are where this kit earns its keep. Drivers climb past that port dozens of times a shift, and a device plugged straight into it gets clipped by boots and bags. Geotab names the same two triggers for a T-harness here as on the light-duty kit: a port location that would interfere with the driver, or a recess that stops the device seating correctly.
Fleet maintenance benefits too. Heavy vehicles go through scheduled inspections and shop visits constantly. With the port left open on its own branch, the shop can connect without disturbing tracking, and the GO device keeps logging the whole time the vehicle is in the bay.
Our crews work on a parked, switched-off and secured vehicle and follow Geotab's sheet for the kit. In outline:
Heavy cabs tempt installers to add length. Geotab's cap of 2 m (6.5 ft) still governs the total, and stacking this T-harness onto another T-harness is prohibited because it can compromise data and upset the ECU.

When replacing a universal kit on a heavy vehicle, pull the old HRN-CG13S1-A out with it rather than leaving it in the chain out of habit, since this harness does not call for it. Heavy-vehicle wiring takes vibration and temperature swings, so we route the device lead along existing supports and keep it away from heater ducts and steering linkages. Confirm the port really is 16-pin before ordering, as many trucks use a round Deutsch port that needs a different harness entirely.
The universal HRN-GS16K22-A needed the HRN-CG13S1-A adapter on every 24 V vehicle. The HRN-GS16K2-HD is designed for 24 V heavy-duty vehicles, and its Geotab listing confirms no HRN-CG13S1 is needed.
Six. They are fitted to the harness core so it can replace the factory port in the vehicle's original mount.
Geotab limits it to heavy-duty vehicles. Light-duty vans, cars and pickups use the HRN-GS16K2-LD.
Trucks and buses are booked around routes, so API Signal brings the Geotab devices and heavy-duty harnesses to your yard and completes the installs on site when the vehicles are parked. To line up a time, call 803-513-1009 or submit your vehicle list on Get a Quote.
