Geotab HRN-CT06S2 Harness

The HRN-CT06S2 is Geotab's custom harness for early Tesla Model S sedans dated September 17, 2015 or older, joining the car to a GO9. It is listed for the Model S only, not the Model X.

What Is the HRN-CT06S2?

The HRN-CT06S2 is a Geotab custom harness that connects a GO9 telematics device to a first-generation Tesla Model S with a date of September 17, 2015 or earlier. Those early sedans do not take a normal plug-in tracker, so this short cable supplies the connection that the car's own wiring does not.

The September 2015 date is the whole story with this part. On one side of it sits the HRN-CT06S2; on the other, the HRN-CT06S1. Getting the date right before ordering is most of the work, and it is where we spend our attention.

Which Vehicles and Devices Does the HRN-CT06S2 Work With?

Geotab ties this harness to Tesla Model S vehicles from September 17, 2015 or older and lists the GO9 as its required device. Measured length is 30 cm (12 in). Like every harness in the table, the connected total may not run past 2 m (6.5 ft). Origin is shown as China, and no replaced part, base harness or kit contents are listed.

The Model X is absent from this entry. Geotab covers the X only in the HRN-CT06S1 and the HRN-CT06K1 kit, both of which apply from late 2015 onward. So when someone asks for the HRN-CT06S2 on an X, the request itself tells us something has been mixed up, and we sort it before ordering.

What Problem Does It Solve on the Job?

Early Model S sedans now turn up in small fleets as bought-outright cars with high mileage: a realtor's car that became a company asset, a car service vehicle, a business owner's daily driver moved onto the books. Owners want the same trip logs and mileage records for tax and reimbursement that they get from the work trucks, and until a harness goes in, the Tesla is simply missing from the report.

Because the part is built for this car, nothing in the factory wiring is cut. That matters on an older vehicle whose value depends on staying unmodified.

How Is the HRN-CT06S2 Installed?

We treat the date check as step one, not an afterthought. A typical early Model S job:

  1. Park the car and keep it stationary throughout, as Geotab requires.
  2. Open the driver door and read the manufacture date on the jamb label.
  3. If the date is close to September 17, 2015, look at the car's connector before committing to a harness.
  4. Lift away only as much trim as the connector requires, working with plastic panel tools.
  5. Plug the HRN-CT06S2 into the car, then seat the GO9 on the device end and listen for the start-up beeps.
  6. Tie the GO9 firmly to a solid mounting point in at least two places and tie off the lead along factory looms.
  7. Close the trim and record the serial number, VIN and asset name in MyInstall until the status reads Pass.

Two Geotab rules ride along on every job: a 2 m (6.5 ft) ceiling on total harness length, and a ban on connecting two T-harnesses together.

What Should You Watch for When Fitting It?

Geotab's two Model S entries both name September 17, 2015, one as the newest date and one as the oldest, so a car built that very week is the case to slow down on. Registration paperwork shows model year, not build date, and a car built in 2015 can be titled as a 2016, which is why we trust the jamb label over the title. High-mileage interiors often have brittle clips and previous aftermarket wiring; trace anything unfamiliar near the connector before plugging in, and leave no weight hanging on the harness.

Which Related Harnesses Should You Compare?

  • HRN-CT06S1: the Model S and Model X harness for cars from September 17, 2015 onward.
  • HRN-CT06K1: the kit for current Model S and X, the 2024 Model 3 redesign and 2022 and newer Plaid.
  • HRN-CT20T1: for the Model 3 from 2018 and earlier, a different car with its own connector.

What Are Common Questions About the HRN-CT06S2?

Will the HRN-CT06S2 fit an early Model X?

Geotab lists the HRN-CT06S2 for the Model S only. Model X cars appear under the HRN-CT06S1 and the HRN-CT06K1 kit, so a Model X never gets this part from us.

Where do we find the build date that decides between HRN-CT06S2 and HRN-CT06S1?

The manufacture date is printed on the label in the driver door jamb. We read the month and year there and compare it with the September 17, 2015 boundary in Geotab's listing.

What length is the HRN-CT06S2?

Geotab gives 30 cm, or 12 inches, for this harness, and no connected run on the car may total more than 2 m (6.5 ft).

API Signal stocks the parts for older Teslas and fits the harness and GO device at your yard, with no trip to a shop. We have 35 years in twelve-volt work. For a price, dial 803-513-1009, or send each car's build date through Get a Quote.
