What Is the HRN-CT06K1?

The HRN-CT06K1 is a Geotab harness kit for newer Tesla cars: it is listed for the 2024 and later redesigned Model 3, the Model S, the Model X, and Plaid versions from 2022 on, and it pairs with a GO9. Inside the kit is the HRN-CT06S1, the same harness Geotab lists on its own for Model S and Model X cars from late 2015 forward.

Calling it a kit matters. Rather than a single cable, Geotab packages what a technician needs for the current generation of Tesla, so one part number covers several bodies. For a fleet with a mix of new Model 3 sedans and a Model X or two, that cuts down the ordering confusion that the older year-split Model 3 parts create.

Which Vehicles and Devices Does the HRN-CT06K1 Work With?

Geotab's table names four groups: the Model 3 in its 2024 redesign, the Model S, the Model X, and Plaid cars from 2022 onward. A GO9 is the stated device requirement. The listed length is 30 cm (12 in), the most cable allowed between car and device in total is 2 m (6.5 ft), and the country of origin given for this kit is Mexico, which differs from the other Tesla harnesses Geotab lists.

Geotab has a written install guide for the redesigned Model 3 that uses this kit's harness. In that guide, an adapter numbered HRN-CT10Y1 sits between the car's white factory connector and the HRN-CT06S1, while the product list refers to the HRN-CT06K1. We open each kit and match the parts to the guide before starting, so nothing is assumed on site.

What Problem Does It Solve on the Job?

New Teslas are the cars most likely to arrive at a fleet with no tracking plan at all. Buyers order them for range and low running cost, then discover the GO devices sitting in the rest of the fleet have no obvious place to plug in. This kit gives them one answer for the current Model 3 and the larger S and X, which keeps reporting consistent when a company runs both.

It also protects the customer from guesswork. The redesigned Model 3 looks different enough from earlier cars that a technician working from memory could reach for the wrong harness, and the kit removes that risk.

How Is the HRN-CT06K1 Installed?

Using Geotab's redesigned Model 3 guide as the reference, the job on that car is rated easy and works from the passenger side. Our sequence:

  1. Park the car and keep it still; nothing is fitted while a vehicle is moving.
  2. Open the glove box, ease back the passenger door weather strip and lift off the dash trim piece.
  3. Pop the retaining clip, then pull the sill and kick panel to the right of the passenger seat upward until its clips let go.
  4. Join the harness parts as the guide shows, unplug the white factory connector and plug the harness into the open factory side.
  5. Plug the GO9 into the OBD2 end and listen for six quick beeps, then tie that joint.
  6. Strap the GO9 to the back of the dash bracket with two or more cable ties, antenna side toward the door.
  7. Tie the harness to factory looms, refit the kick panel, clip and trim, and press the weather strip home.
  8. On the touchscreen, go to Controls, then Charging, and switch on Keep Accessory Power On.
  9. Watch for the LED pattern to settle, then register the serial, VIN and asset name in MyInstall until it shows Pass.

What Should You Watch for When Fitting It?

Geotab bars T-harnesses and unlisted add-ons on the redesigned Model 3, so a customer wanting extra inputs gets them only from the approved IOX list. The car should be on current Tesla software for data to flow, and we check that before blaming hardware. Weather strip and kick panel clips are the parts most likely to be bent, so lever gently. Skipping Keep Accessory Power On is an easy miss at the end of a long day; we treat it as part of the install, not an option.

Which Related Harnesses Should You Compare?

  • HRN-CT06S1: the harness inside this kit, also sold alone for Model S and Model X from September 17, 2015.
  • HRN-CT20T11: for Model 3 cars from 2019 that predate the redesign.
  • HRN-CT26T1: Geotab's Model Y harness.

What Are Common Questions About the HRN-CT06K1?

Which Teslas does the HRN-CT06K1 kit cover?

Geotab lists the redesigned Model 3 from 2024, the Model S, the Model X and 2022 and newer Plaid versions. Earlier Model 3 cars use the HRN-CT20T1 or HRN-CT20T11 instead.

Can a T-harness be added to a Tesla running this kit?

No. Geotab's install guide for the redesigned Model 3 rules out T-harnesses on that car and limits add-ons to a short list of approved IOX modules.

Why does the car need Keep Accessory Power On?

Geotab's guide for the redesigned Model 3 ends with switching on Keep Accessory Power On under the charging controls, so we set it before handing the car back.
