The original GO Anywhere shows its status with one LED that flashes or holds green or red once its magnetic strip is pulled off. This page animates each state, shows the strip retry and flags a temperature conflict in Geotab's pages.
The original GO Anywhere has a single LED and only two colors to report with: green and red. Geotab publishes four states for activation, two green and two red, and each one is either flashing or solid. There is no button on this model. A magnetic strip sits on the case just below the LED, and pulling it off is what wakes the tracker and starts activation. Tap any button below to see it and hear what it means.
🔇 The GO Anywhere has no sound. Watch the light.
Easy way to remember it: Green blinks, it thinks. Green stays, all set. Red means it failed.

Each button plays the pattern on the GO Anywhere above, says out loud what it means, and tells you what to do.
| Light | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Green, flashing | Activation or health check in progress | Leave it where it is and keep hands off |
| Green, solid | Activation succeeded | Nothing; mount it |
| Red, solid | Activation failed | Check it is within its temperature range and in cell coverage, then retry with the strip |
| Red, flashing | Activation failed | Geotab routes this one to support; our technicians open the case with Geotab and replace or re-activate the unit |
Geotab lists no orange, white or blue state for this model. If the LED shows nothing at all, Geotab's troubleshooting starts with power and connections, then a test against a known good unit.
After activation, nobody needs to handle the tracker again. It reports the last known location of the asset at the ping rate set in MyGeotab and sleeps between check-ins to stretch its three sealed AA lithium cells, which Geotab estimates last three to five years. Faster ping rates cost battery life.
Because the cells cannot be removed, the tracker is replaced as a whole at the end of its life. The battery health indicator in MyGeotab shows which units are getting low, so replacements can be grouped into one visit.
There is no harness and no wiring port, so the parts are about fixing it in place:
Fleets adding trackers today can compare the Next Gen GO Anywhere, rated for up to ten years, and the wired GO Anywhere Plus. See the GO Anywhere product page for fleet uses.

| Operating temperature | Geotab conflict: -40 to +60 °C in the quick start and troubleshooting pages, -40 to +85 °C in the install guide |
We cannot tell you which temperature figure is correct, because Geotab's own pages give two different upper limits. Until Geotab corrects one of them, we treat +60 °C as the safe ceiling, which matters on dark equipment parked in summer sun and is the first thing we look at when a unit shows solid red.
Make sure the LED went to solid green after the strip came off, and never mount a unit that stopped on red. When re-applying the strip for a retry, place it below the LED so the light stays visible. Mount it under open sky, away from metal, with drilling approved. Confirm each unit appears in MyGeotab against the right asset, then validate it in Geotab's installation tool.
Green blinks, it thinks. Green stays, all set. Red means it failed. Flashing green is activation running, solid green is success, and either red state means the attempt did not work.
Geotab's own pages disagree. The quick start guide and the troubleshooting page give -40 to +60 °C, while the install guide gives -40 to +85 °C. Until Geotab settles it, we plan around the lower +60 °C figure.
Put the magnetic strip back on below the LED, keeping the LED itself uncovered, leave it at least 5 seconds, then pull it off again and watch the light. The tracker also retries a failed attempt by itself.
A GO Anywhere stuck on red or showing no light is a job our technicians handle on site, rerunning the strip activation or replacing a unit at end of life. Call 803-513-1009 or book through Get a Quote.
