Azuga GL502A, technical information

No lights and no buttons: activation is by magnet. Here are the steps and the specs Azuga documents.

← Back to the Long-Life Asset Tracker

This is the technical sheet for the GL502 family tracker. It has no buttons and Azuga documents no lights, so the story here is activation, battery, mounting and the portal check, in the order you do them.

Lights and sound

No lights documented

We read Azuga's install guide, the activation article, the mounting article and a partner copy of the guide. None of them describes an LED. We will not draw one. This guide is therefore a step guide, not a light simulator.

🔇 No Azuga page we read mentions a speaker or beeps on this tracker.

That is silence, not a statement of no sound. We treat it as silent in the field.

Step 1: before you go

  • Write down the IMEI from the label on the side of the tracker. You need it to find the tracker in the portal.
  • Take the supplied magnet, the lanyard kit and the magnetic mount, as listed for the box.
  • Know the asset name you will use. Azuga does not allow duplicate asset names, and short unique names work best.

Step 2: activate it

Hold the supplied magnet over the magnetic reed switch for a few seconds. The switch is open by default, and the magnet closes it and powers the tracker on. After that, the magnet can come off or stay on. Azuga does not state how long activation takes and does not tell you where the reed switch is on the case, so check the label and the box.

Step 3: mount it

MethodWhat Azuga says
MagneticFlat, level, rust-free spot. Top side up. All four magnets engaged on the frame member. Lanyard around the frame member and clipped through the lanyard loop.
ScrewsFlat, level, rust-free surface. Four holes to the footprint. Screws from inside the surface, nuts tightened. Drive slowly.
Lanyard holes1/4 inch holes in the frame member.

Step 4: confirm it in the portal

  1. In Azuga Fleet, open Admin, then Devices, and read the Activation status column.
  2. Under Admin and Assets, search by IMEI, set a unique short name and fill in the required fields.
  3. Open the Live page. Allow 5 to 10 minutes after activation and movement for events to appear, per the partner copy of the guide. Remember the default ping is once every 24 hours.
  4. Change the password on first login if the account is new.

When the portal shows nothing

Azuga does not publish a fault tree for the GL502. Here is what its articles do give you, in the order we would check:

  1. Read the Activation status column under Admin and Devices. If the tracker is not shown as activated, repeat the magnet step.
  2. Search the IMEI under Admin and Assets. A wrong or mistyped IMEI will find nothing.
  3. Check that the asset name is unique. Azuga does not allow duplicates.
  4. Remember the 24 hour default ping. Give it a full day before you call it failed.
  5. If it still shows nothing, write down the IMEI, the activation date and the mounting spot, and send them to customercare@azuga.com.

Azuga does not say what the tracker does when the magnet is held on for a long time, or how to power it off again. Ask Azuga before you promise a customer a way to switch it off.

Battery, ping and life

The battery is 57,000 mAh. Azuga says it lasts 3 to 5 years depending on ping frequency. A faster ping rate lowers that. Azuga does not publish the temperature at which life drops, only the operating range of -20 to +60 C.
