How Do You Read the AI Recorder Lights?

The AI Recorder has three lights and one button. The Camera light shows power, recording and firmware updates. The Network light shows whether the recorder has reached 4G and the server. The Expansion light shows whether auxiliary cameras are working. Tap any pattern to watch it and hear what it means, or play a normal power-up.

🔈 The AI Recorder has a speaker, but Zonar does not publish what its sounds mean. Read the lights.

Easy way to remember it: red camera light means recording, green network light means connected.

What Does a Normal AI Recorder Install Look Like?

  • SD card first. Remove the security panel with the Torx driver and insert a high-endurance microSD card, 32 to 512 GB. The recorder formats it on first use.
  • Power cord. OBD-II, J1939 or direct wire, routed to the mounting spot with a few inches of slack at the recorder.
  • Mount. Clean dry glass just below the driver side of the mirror, flat plate on upright glass, wedge plate on raked glass.
  • Power on. The Camera light turns blue, then red once the SD card is found. If it never turns red, reseat or replace the card.
  • Check in the app. Join the recorder's Wi-Fi using the name and password on its label, then run the network test, power test, auxiliary camera check and preview in the Zonar Video app.
  • Calibrate. Level the road camera on flat ground with the side knob, set the driver camera parallel to the cab, then lock the security panel.

What Are Common Questions About the AI Recorder Lights and Button?

Why does the AI Recorder light stay blue instead of red?

Blue means powered and idle. It turns red when it is recording, which needs a working SD card. Reseat or replace the card if it stays blue.

How do you mark an event on the AI Recorder?

Hold the button for 2 seconds.

How do you restart the AI Recorder?

Hold the button for 8 seconds.
