Greenville County is the most populous county in South Carolina, with 525,534 residents at the 2020 census and an estimated 583,125 by 2025, and the county says it maintains the largest roadway system in the state. That network is shared with six cities, Greenville, Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville, Travelers Rest and Fountain Inn, and each one runs its own vehicles. In the City of Greenville, Public Works maintains the city's infrastructure and collects residential garbage, which puts packers, street trucks and utility units on the road every weekday.

Winter is when those street fleets earn their keep. During the storm at the start of February 2026, City of Greenville crews worked 12-hour shifts with about 12,000 gallons of brine and around 500 tons of salt on hand, while Greenlink buses stayed parked for the day. On the law enforcement side, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office is listed with 397 sworn officers, 14 specialized units and both automobile and aviation patrol, and the Greenville Police Department added Signal Sidearm holster sensors in 2021 so body cameras switch on automatically within 25 feet of an officer who draws a weapon.

Transit here is ahead of most of the state. Greenlink carried 689,733 fixed-route rides in 2025, moved four routes to 30-minute service in February 2026 and bought five new battery-electric buses to do it. It runs out of a $13.75 million, 26-acre maintenance facility that opened in 2024 with CNG fueling and added electric bus chargers. Over in Pickens and Oconee counties, Clemson Area Transit runs a fare-free system serving Clemson, Seneca, Pendleton, Central and Anderson, with Proterra battery-electric buses in the fleet.

North and west of the city the counties change character. Pickens County, with 131,404 residents in 2020, runs from Easley up to Table Rock State Park and Sassafras Mountain, at 3,560 feet the highest point in South Carolina. Oconee County, the westernmost county in the state with 78,607 residents, holds Lakes Hartwell, Keowee and Jocassee, part of the Sumter National Forest and the Chattooga River. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office processed 107,908 calls in 2023, and sheriff's marine units work the lakes alongside road patrol, EMS and fire units covering long rural runs.

What We Install in Greenville

Built for plow trucks, patrol units and electric buses

We install every major platform with the twelve-volt experience public equipment needs: clean power taps, correct grounds and connections that survive salt, washdown and gravel roads.

GPS Fleet Tracking

Hardwired units on packers, plow and spreader trucks and patrol cars, OBD units on inspector and pool vehicles, and battery asset trackers on boat trailers, generators, UTVs and brush-truck trailers that sit for weeks between callouts.

Dash & Backup Cameras

Road- and driver-facing cameras on patrol units and street trucks, backup and side cameras on packers working tight downtown streets, and multi-camera setups on transit buses, wired so recording starts when the vehicle does, not when someone remembers.

Telematics & Integrations

Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Powerfleet, CalAmp, Geotab and more, including engine and battery data from heavy-duty diagnostic ports on diesel, CNG and battery-electric units, and consolidating mixed platforms onto one account.

Greenville-Specific Considerations

What makes public fleet installs around Greenville different?

Will a tracker keep working on brush trucks up near Table Rock and Caesars Head?

Yes, as long as it is installed for that kind of work. The Table Rock fire that started in March 2025 burned 13,845 acres, the largest wildfire in Upstate history, and the combined response brought in 87 engines, 99 brush trucks, 12 tankers and 15 UTVs while US 276 and parts of SC 11 were closed. That is exactly when a dispatcher needs to see where every unit is.

The major platforms we install store position data when signal drops and send it once the unit reconnects, so the trail is there afterward. What decides whether it works is the install: antenna placement with a clear view of the sky, a power tap that holds up on a truck parked for weeks, and battery trackers on UTVs and trailers that have no ignition at all. We fit brush trucks, tankers and off-road units with that in mind.

Can you install on battery-electric and CNG buses?

Yes. Greenlink is adding battery-electric buses for its 30-minute routes and fuels CNG at its new maintenance facility, and Clemson Area Transit runs Proterra electric buses, so mixed powertrains are normal in this region. They are not wired like a diesel bus, and the install has to account for that.

On an electric bus the power and ignition signals sit in different places than on a diesel, the high-voltage system is strictly off limits, and data like state of charge comes through the diagnostic port where the platform supports it. We tap approved low-voltage circuits, keep well clear of high-voltage components, and confirm the platform is reading the right data before the bus goes back into service.

What happens to our tracking if a hardware maker goes out of business?

Seneca learned that lesson on the bus side. The city launched the nation's first all-electric city bus fleet in 2015, and after Proterra's 2023 bankruptcy removed manufacturer maintenance support, the council voted in July 2024 to end the service because it could not afford the repairs.

Telematics can go the same way: platforms get bought, devices get discontinued, contracts end. You protect yourself by keeping the data under your agency's own account and tied to the vehicle rather than the device, and by having hardware installed on clean, labeled harnesses so a unit can be swapped without rewiring the truck. Because we install every major platform, we handle that swap on site whenever the day comes.

Can you track patrol boats, trailers and lake equipment?

Yes. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office marine unit patrolled 2,462 miles of shoreline in 2023 and logged 204 engine hours, and the Pickens County Sheriff's marine unit covers Lakes Keowee and Hartwell with a center-console boat. The boat, its trailer and the truck that tows it are three separate assets that are rarely parked in the same place.

We fit battery or hardwired asset trackers to trailers, hardwire the tow vehicles, and add a unit to the boat where the platform supports marine use, so maintenance runs off real engine hours instead of guesses. Connections get sealed against water, and every unit shows up in the same account as the rest of your fleet.

Questions From Greenville Fleet Managers

What do Greenville public fleet managers ask us?

Do you come to our yard, or do the vehicles have to go somewhere?

We come to you. We work at your motor pool, transit garage, fire station or county shop anywhere in Greenville, Pickens and Oconee counties, in batches sized so no department is short more than a unit or two at a time.

Can you get plow and spreader trucks done before winter weather season?

Yes, and fall is the right time to do it. Tell us which trucks run brine, salt or plows and we will schedule them ahead of the first cold snap, including a spreader or PTO input where your platform supports it, so you can see which streets were treated and when.

Will tracking still show where a unit went if it loses signal in the mountains?

Yes. The major platforms we install store position data while out of coverage and upload it when they reconnect, so the history fills in afterward. Live position pauses while the signal is gone, which is why antenna placement matters so much on mountain units.

Can you switch us from one platform to another without rewiring every vehicle?

Yes. We pull the old units and install the new ones on the same power and ground points where those are sound, and redo any that are not. Planned well, a platform change becomes a scheduled swap across the fleet rather than a full rewire.

Do you install in-car cameras on patrol units that already carry body cameras?

Yes. We wire in-car and dash cameras to your agency's specification alongside whatever body camera system you run, keeping cable runs clear of airbags, partitions and radio equipment so the car stays easy to service.
