Greenwood's economy is built on plants, and plants run on trucks. Eaton employs more than 1,200 people in the county and in 2020 pulled its busway work from three Greenwood County sites into one building on Highway 25 North in Hodges. Along the same highway sit Colgate-Palmolive, which makes Softsoap liquid hand soap and Speed Stick deodorant there, and the North American headquarters of Symrise Pet Food. On Emerald Road, Lonza makes hard capsules for medicines and supplements at a site that has been producing since 1967, and Cardinal Health runs a plant on North Emerald Road. Every one of those sites pulls in freight carriers, parts suppliers, maintenance contractors and service vans each working day.

Then there are the businesses that keep everything else running. Self Regional Healthcare is the county's largest employer, with more than 2,200 staff, and its home health service covers nine counties from Greenwood out to Anderson, Greenville and Newberry. Greenwood Mills, weaving since 1889, still runs its Harris Plant on Calhoun Road, and Carolina Pride smokes bacon and sausage in a 256,000-square-foot plant in the city. Those buildings, and the homes of the people who work in them, keep electricians, heating-and-air and plumbing outfits, exterminators, landscapers and couriers busy, and most of those companies run 1 to 10 vehicles.

Those crews come from all over the region. Greenwood's economic development partners count a workforce of more than 87,000 within a 60-minute commute, so a tech parking a work van overnight in Ninety Six, Abbeville or Clinton is ordinary here. We plan for take-home vehicles from the first conversation, setting after-hours rules the way your policy reads rather than leaving the defaults on.

Larger fleets come through as well. The county has two CSX mainlines and four-lane roads to I-26, I-385 and I-85, and VELUX ships skylights from a distribution center on Puckett Ferry Road with more than 20 dock doors. Regional carriers, rental companies, equipment dealers and national fleets that base trucks here need an installer who can fit a handful of units one week and a full lot the next. Government fleets are covered on a separate page; this one is for the companies that keep Greenwood's plants, homes and roads moving.

What We Install in Greenwood

Installs built around Greenwood's plants, trades and freight

We fit every major platform, wired properly for the vehicles you actually run here.

GPS Fleet Tracking

We hardwire trackers on service vans, box trucks and tractors, and use plug-in units where you want them easy to move between vehicles. Geofences are drawn around each plant gate on Highway 25 North and Emerald Road, so arrival and departure times hold up when a customer questions an invoice.

Dash & Backup Cameras

Forward and in-cab cameras go in alongside reversing and side cameras for trucks that back onto dock aprons and plant loading areas. Cables are routed and secured to survive daily in-and-out on plant and construction sites, and parked recording is limited so a camera does not flatten the battery overnight.

Telematics & Integrations

Motive, Samsara, Verizon Connect, Geotab, Lytx, Netradyne, Powerfleet, CalAmp and other platforms all go in to the same standard, electric trucks included. We wire auxiliary inputs, tune trip and idle rules for short plant-to-plant runs, and move a mixed fleet onto one system when you are ready.

Greenwood-Specific Considerations

What makes commercial fleet installs in Greenwood different?

How do we prove time on site when several plants share one stretch of Highway 25?

With a separate, tight geofence on each gate rather than one big zone. Symrise Pet Food's headquarters is at 5300 Highway 25 North, Colgate-Palmolive at 5421 and Eaton's busway plant at 5502, all in Hodges, and the North Greenwood Industrial Park, where E.A. Sween's sandwich plant was the first tenant, is on the same highway. A contractor or supplier can call at two or three of those gates in one morning.

Draw one wide zone around that stretch and the platform merges those calls into a single stop, which is no help when you bill each customer for hours on site. We map each entrance during setup, size the zone to the actual gate and parking area, and test it with a live drive-through before we leave, so the in and out times on your report line up with the guard shack's sign-in sheet.

Can you install GPS and cameras on electric trucks?

Yes, and electric trucks are already working Greenwood roads. VELUX put two Freightliner eCascadia electric semis into daily service at its Puckett Ferry Road distribution center, and the company says they offset 50,000 to 60,000 miles a year of fuel use.

An electric truck still has a low-voltage system for lights, cab electronics and accessories, and that is the only system we touch. We stay well clear of the orange high-voltage cabling, take power and data from the low-voltage side and the diagnostic port, and confirm the device sees the truck switching on, because there is no engine start to trigger it. Where your platform reads battery charge and energy use from the truck, we check that data is reporting before we sign off.

What if our trucks mostly shuttle between buildings a mile or two apart?

Then the trip rules need adjusting, or your reports fill with dozens of three-minute trips. Greenwood's big sites are spread out: Fujifilm's campus on Puckett Ferry Road covers 500 acres with five manufacturing buildings, and VELUX's distribution center there sits about a mile from its commercial skylight plant and about three miles from its main campus. Parts runners and shuttle trucks serving sites like these can spend a whole shift on short hops.

We set minimum trip length and stop time so a short hop reads as one move, and we put a geofence on each building and dock so the report shows where the hours go. Sites here also change shape: Eaton folded three Greenwood County locations into one building in Hodges. When a site closes or a new one opens, we move the devices and redraw the zones so each vehicle's history stays intact.

Should we install before the SC 246 widening starts?

Yes, if your trucks use that road, because the months before construction are your only chance to record normal drive times. SC 246 is being widened for about four miles from US 221 at Coronaca to SC 702, from two lanes to five through the Emerald Road intersection, with a new bridge over the CSX line. The county's public works director called the existing road bare-minimum infrastructure for the employers along it, including Lonza, Fujifilm and VELUX. Right-of-way purchases were scheduled for early 2026 and construction for mid-2027.

Trucks tracked before then give you a before-and-after record: trip times, idling and stops along the corridor before the work zones go up, and the same figures once they do. That lets a dispatcher set honest delivery windows for Emerald Road and Puckett Ferry Road customers and gives you real numbers if a customer questions a late arrival. We set the corridor up as its own reporting zone at install, so the comparison is ready when you need it.

Questions From Greenwood Fleet Managers

What do Greenwood public fleet managers ask us?

Do you install for a Greenwood business with only 1 to 10 vehicles?

Yes. A two-van electrical outfit in Hodges or a lawn crew with seven trucks around Ninety Six gets the technicians who wire plant and freight fleets, working to one standard, and the whole group is finished in a single visit to wherever the vehicles sit overnight.

What tracking and camera systems do you fit around Greenwood?

We fit Motive, Samsara, Verizon Connect, Geotab, Lytx, Netradyne, Powerfleet, CalAmp and more. A supplier serving the Highway 25 or Emerald Road plants may be asked by a customer or broker to carry one particular system; whichever it is, we install and test it alongside anything already on the truck.

Can a regional or national fleet book installs for just its Greenwood-based trucks?

Yes. We install on the units parked here, match your company's device settings and naming, and send back a vehicle-by-vehicle record of serial numbers, VINs and mounting locations for your fleet team.

Will tracking show where a take-home truck goes at night?

Only if you want it to. Take-home trucks here can end the day in Abbeville, Laurens or Saluda County, so we set after-hours and personal-use rules at install, from full tracking to limited reporting on the way home, depending on your policy and what your platform offers.

Do our trucks have to come off the road for a day?

No. We come to where they park, work before or after your crews head out when that suits you better, and test each unit on the spot so it goes straight back to work.
