API Signal installs fleet GPS trackers, dash cameras and telematics for businesses in Camden and across Kershaw County, from Elgin and Lugoff to Cassatt and Bethune, and the work is done where the vehicles park: shop, plant gate, barn or driveway. That covers trades with 1 to 10 vehicles, plant and distribution fleets along I-20, poultry and timber haulers, and the trucks and trailers that move Camden's horses.
Most of Kershaw County's working day happens somewhere else. The state's 2026 community profile counts 20,527 residents who commute out of the county against 7,558 who both live and work in it, and the Census Bureau puts the average trip to work at 30 minutes. Service companies do the same. An HVAC outfit, an electrical contractor, a plumber or a landscaper with 1 to 10 vehicles parks in Lugoff or Elgin overnight and works well beyond the county line by day. Home building adds to it: 509 new housing units were permitted here in 2025.
Plants and warehouses add their own traffic. INVISTA makes nylon polymer and fiber at its Camden site, a plant that dates to 1950. In Steeplechase Industrial Park on Black River Road, beside I-20, Hengst builds filtration modules for the automotive industry, and GE Appliances has made water heaters since 2022 in a plant the company said in 2025 would double its output and employment. Target has run a distribution center in Lugoff since 2003. Behind those gates are tractors, yard trucks and contractors' vans and pickups.
The 2022 Census of Agriculture ranked Kershaw County first of South Carolina's 46 counties for farm sales, with $364.6 million in products sold, 97 percent of it livestock and poultry, and counted 1,744,814 turkeys and just over three million laying hens. Prestage processes turkeys in a 295,000 square foot plant in Governor's Hill Industrial Park, and the Canfor sawmill in Camden has operated since 1983. That puts live-haul trailers, feed trucks, refrigerated trailers and log trucks on the county's roads.
Then there are the horses. The same census ranked the county second in the state for sales of horses and other equines, and counted 1,160 horses and ponies on its farms. Springdale Race Course runs the Colonial Cup in November and the Carolina Cup in spring, and the South Carolina Equine Park has 280 stalls, three rings and a covered arena. Around them work horse vans, gooseneck trailers behind one-ton pickups, hay and feed deliveries, and vets and farriers driving barn to barn all day.
We install whichever platform you run, and we wire it for three things Kershaw County fleets deal with: downtown streets posted against trucks with over six wheels, trailers with no power of their own, and rigs that are washed after every load.
Hardwired trackers on dump trucks, tractors and service bodies, plug-in or hardwired units on vans and pickups, battery trackers on horse, equipment and live-haul trailers, and a geofence on the posted blocks of Broad Street so a through trip stands apart from a delivery.
Road-facing cameras set up for rough pavement like Black River Road's, driver-facing units where wanted, rear cameras for backing a gooseneck down a barn lane or a trailer onto a plant dock, and side cameras on trucks making tight downtown stops.
Samsara, Motive, Lytx, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Netradyne, Powerfleet, CalAmp and more, with PTO inputs on feed, dump and boom trucks, door and temperature inputs on refrigerated trailers, and engine hours and fault codes sent to whoever maintains the trucks.
With a stop record that gives the address, the arrival time and how long the truck stood there. The truck traffic section in Chapter 71 of the Camden city code, as published online in 2026, makes it unlawful to drive any vehicle with over six wheels on a street posted "no through trucks", except for pickup and delivery on that street, and tells those drivers to follow the state's signs for alternate truck routes. A tandem-axle dump truck rolls on ten wheels and a tractor-trailer on eighteen, so both are covered.
Camden police said in May 2023 that they had stopped more than 200 trucks in 30 days, most of them around Broad, York and DeKalb streets, and that citations would follow. City council amended the section twice in 2025, the second time to align the signs with its wording. So we group your vehicles by wheel count in the platform, draw a geofence on the posted blocks, and set the alert to fire only when a covered truck passes through without stopping. A road-facing camera adds the building and the sign to the record. West of downtown, Ehrenclou Drive, Chestnut Ferry Road, US 1, Springdale Drive and Boykin Road link South Broad Street to the Kershaw Highway, and we draw that corridor as well.
Its own battery, topped up from the truck whenever the trailer is hitched. A horse trailer has no ignition circuit. Unless it carries a house battery, its power comes down the seven-way plug, and that stops the moment the truck is unhitched. So we fit a tracker with an internal battery, wire its charge lead to the trailer's 12-volt auxiliary feed, and mount it high in the nose or the tack room, away from hooves, bedding and wash water.
A trailer left for a show weekend at the South Carolina Equine Park, or parked at a barn between race meets, still reports where it is. On the tow truck we hardwire a tracker and fit a road-facing camera. On the trailer, a rear camera helps with backing down a barn lane, and on platforms with a spare camera input we add a view of the stalls, so the driver checks the horses from the cab.
Yes, in how the camera is mounted and how its event triggers are set. Black River Road leaves US 521 south of downtown and carries plant traffic to Steeplechase Industrial Park, where Hengst, GE Appliances and Custom Profile operate. In June 2026 WIS reported hundreds of patches, sudden bumps and crumbling edges along an eight-mile stretch, and state crash data showing 115 crashes there since 2020, two of them fatal.
A camera that treats every pothole as a harsh event buries the clips that matter. We fix the camera to the glass and the tracker to solid structure, set the vehicle type so the platform applies the right thresholds, and go through the first days of events with you so the settings fit that road. In 2026 SCDOT's tentative schedule put a first phase of safety work, three lanes for 1.7 miles from US 521, out for bids late that year, and the department told WIS the job would not be finished until 2029. Until the road is rebuilt, video with speed and time attached answers a claim on it.
Yes, when it is installed for water from the start. At the Prestage turkey plant in Governor's Hill Industrial Park, live birds arrive by truck in transport cages. ProFood World's 2023 account of the plant describes the empty cages coming off to be washed, the truck moving forward to be washed, and clean cages going onto a clean trailer for the trip back to the farm, because the trucks are a point of cross-contamination.
So on a truck in that loop the tracker goes inside the cab, never on the frame. Any connector that has to live outside is a sealed type, covered again with heat shrink and tied up out of the spray. Trailer trackers are sealed units bolted where the wash wand does not point straight at them, and camera cables enter the cab through a grommet. That account had the plant on one ten-hour shift, four days a week, so we ask which day your trucks stand still and install then.
Kershaw County, from the Elgin end of US 1 to Bethune and up to Lake Wateree:
We work at your barn, plant gate, shop or driveway, so no truck or trailer leaves its route for an appointment.
Yes. A two-truck farrier, a five-van HVAC company in Lugoff and a plant fleet are wired and tested to one standard. A job that size fits in one visit, at the shop or wherever the vans spend the night, because an installer completes 15 to 20 vehicles a day on a basic GPS job. Typical scheduling is 3 to 5 days out.
Motive, Netradyne, Samsara, Powerfleet, Verizon Connect, Lytx, CalAmp, Geotab and more. We are independent and $2M insured, we install the system you have chosen, and we also offer equipment. If the company you haul for supplies a device of its own, we fit both.
Yes, we plan around them. Springdale Race Course runs the Colonial Cup in November, on Sunday, November 22 in 2026, and the Carolina Cup in spring, on Saturday, April 3 in 2027. The city says the Carolina Cup draws over 30,000 fans. Four race course gates have Springdale Drive addresses, and that road is part of the way around downtown, so installs on that side of town are booked for other days.
Yes. One four-lane bridge, 1,515 feet long, replaces two bridges from the early 1970s under a $96 million contract SCDOT awarded in 2023. SCDOT announced the moves of westbound and eastbound traffic onto it in August and September 2026, when its project page listed substantial completion for fall 2027. US 1 is the other highway bridge between Lugoff and Camden, so we install at your yard, on your side of the river.
Yes, along with Cassatt, Liberty Hill, the Lake Wateree shore and the industrial parks beside I-20. The town of Kershaw is about 20 miles north on US 521, over the line in Lancaster County, and we work there as well. If your vehicles are split between a shop and drivers' homes, we plan one run that reaches all of them.
