The IOX-NFCREADERA shows its status with one green light on the reader, and the GO device it plugs into supplies the beep. Below, each pattern plays in motion with its meaning, followed by specs, parts and install checks.
This driver ID reader has one green LED and no beeper of its own, so every beep a driver hears comes from the GO device behind the dash. Geotab publishes three patterns: an accepted tag, a relay waiting for a tag, and the Keyless reader pattern. Tap any button below to see it and hear what it means.
🔊 The IOX-NFCREADERA uses a light and GO device beeps. Turn your sound on.
Easy way to remember it: Two green blinks and a beep, you're signed in. Nonstop beeping, tap your tag. The beep lives in the GO device, not the reader.

Each button plays the pattern on the IOX-NFCREADERA above, says out loud what it means, and tells you what to do.
| Light | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Green, two flashes | A tag was read and accepted | Nothing; the trip now carries that driver's name |
| Green, one flash then continuous flashing | Reader working in Keyless mode; Geotab gives no further detail | Have our technicians confirm the Keyless setup if doors don't respond |
Geotab publishes no light for a rejected tag or an idle reader, and no LED position, so our drawing places it for illustration.
| Beeps | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| One beep from the GO device | Pairs with the two green flashes: tag accepted | Drive on |
| Continuous beeping from the GO device | Relay installed and active, no valid tag read yet; the relayed circuit stays inactive | Tap a tag assigned to that driver |
| Reminder beeps while moving | MyGeotab's driver identification reminder: the vehicle is moving with nobody signed in past the set time limit | Pull over safely and tap the tag |
A driver starts the vehicle and holds a fob or sticker flat against the reader. With roughly 11 mm of read distance for the fob and 19 mm for the sticker, a key ring swinging nearby won't count. After the two blinks and the beep, MyGeotab attaches that person to every trip and report until someone else signs in.
In the office, managers assign each tag to a driver record, set the sign-in reminder's time limit, and can restrict a vehicle to an approved list through a GO device parameter. Ask drivers to keep tags off wireless phone chargers, since Geotab warns the NFC parts are not built to sit in that charging field.
The reader has no vehicle harness. It runs off the GO device's IOX port, while the GO device uses its usual harness, such as the HRN-GS16K2-LD on a light-duty 16-pin port. Parts that often go with it:
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Status indicator | One green LED; beeps come from the GO device |
| Frequency | 13.56 MHz NFC |
| Read distance | 19 mm sticker, 11 mm fob, 30 mm Keyless fob through a windshield |
| Power | 12 V / 24 V nominal; 100 mA operating, 1.1 mA sleep |
| Chain output | CAN at 500 kbps; 2500 mA pass-through |
| Temperature | -40 to +85 °C |
| Size and weight | Antenna 63 x 49 x 16.5 mm; 1300 mm overall; 148 g |
| Works with | Driver ID on GO7 and newer; Keyless on GO9 and newer |
Tap a real assigned tag and expect both signals together, since a flash without the beep, or the reverse, points to a setup fault. The dash bracket must be screwed down; Geotab treats its tape as a positioning aid only. On a relay job, start up without a tag, hear the steady beeping, then tap and confirm the circuit comes alive. Only the final module keeps its shunt, zip tied, and the job ends with a PASS in the verification site.
Two green blinks and a beep, you are signed in. Nonstop beeping, tap your tag. The beep always comes from the GO device, because the reader itself has no sounder.
That happens when a driver ID relay is installed and active. The GO device beeps continuously and the relay keeps its circuit off until an assigned tag is read, so the fix is simply a tap with a valid tag.
With the Authorized Driver List parameter applied, the reader accepts only tags assigned to approved drivers. Geotab does not publish a separate light or beep for a refused tag, so the missing two flashes and beep is the sign it was not accepted.
When a reader goes dark or a relay won't release, our technicians trace the IOX chain on site and get drivers signing in again in one stop. Reach us at 803-513-1009 or through Get a Quote.
