Geotab SPR-INSTALLBAG Harness

The SPR-INSTALLBAG is Geotab's install kit for mounting a GO device, containing a mounting bracket, two zip seals, two screws and double-sided tape. It gives the device a fixed home instead of leaving it hanging from the harness.

What Is the SPR-INSTALLBAG?

The SPR-INSTALLBAG is a small Geotab accessory kit for physically mounting a GO device in a vehicle. Geotab describes the contents as a mounting bracket and material for the GO device, with two zip seals, two screws and double-sided tape supplied for the bracket. Its stated purpose is to give installers the hardware that makes a GO install easier.

It is not a harness and carries no signals. It lives in Geotab's installation accessories group, which Geotab describes as items commonly ordered alongside harnesses so GO devices are properly secured. Geotab publishes little about it beyond the contents and a two-line mounting instruction, so this page is mostly about why securing the device matters and how we use the parts in the bag.

Which Vehicles and Devices Does the SPR-INSTALLBAG Work With?

Geotab lists the bracket simply as being for the GO device and does not publish a model list or dimensions for it, so we check the fit against the specific device generation going into the vehicle. Because the bag is about mounting, not connection, it is vehicle-neutral. It suits any install where the GO device needs a fixed position, whether that is behind a knee panel in a pickup, under the dash in a van or tucked into a truck cab.

The bag does not replace a harness. It is paired with whichever T-harness, extension or adapter the vehicle needs, and Geotab's harness rules still apply: a total harness length of no more than 2 m (6.5 ft), and never two T-harnesses joined together.

What Problem Does It Solve on the Job?

The fastest way to cause trouble on a telematics install is to leave the device dangling from the diagnostic port. Geotab warns that, without proper securing, vibration can loosen the connection and may lead to engine computer failure and loss of vehicle control. A device hanging loose can also end up in the driver's footwell, which is the last place anyone wants a hard object next to the pedals.

A bracket gives the device a fixed home. Combined with cable ties on both sides of each connection, it keeps the harness from carrying the weight of the device and stops drivers from knocking it with their knees. It also makes the next service visit simpler, because the device is always in the same place.

There is a quieter benefit too. Devices that are tucked away neatly behind trim are less likely to be unplugged, tampered with or snagged during cleaning.

How Is the SPR-INSTALLBAG Installed?

Geotab's mounting instruction is short: fix the bracket to the vehicle with the screws or the double-sided tape, then place the GO device in the bracket. Our full sequence adds Geotab's general securing rules around it:

  • Fit the harness first and confirm where the GO device can sit within the 2 m harness limit.
  • Choose a solid, flat surface out of the way of pedals, steering, airbags and anything the driver touches.
  • For tape, clean the surface first; for screws, check behind the panel for wiring, ducts or modules before driving them in.
  • Fix the bracket, seat the GO device in it, and use the zip seals or cable ties to hold the device and harness in place.
  • Tie the harness on both sides of each connection so nothing carries strain.
  • Start the vehicle and confirm the device is communicating in MyInstall or MyGeotab.

What Should You Watch for When Fitting It?

Tape only holds as well as the surface beneath it. Dusty, textured or vinyl-wrapped panels and areas that get hot in summer are where tape gives up, so we switch to the screws there. Before any screw goes in, look behind the panel; a screw through a wiring loom creates a fault that can take hours to find. Keep the bracket clear of airbag modules and anything that moves. Geotab also asks that devices and cabling be inspected regularly, so we leave the bracket where a technician can see it when the trim comes off.

Which Related Harnesses Should You Compare?

  • SPR-NFCBRACKET: a replacement bracket for the IOX-NFCREADER driver ID reader rather than the GO device.
  • HRN-GS16K22-A: universal OBD-II T-harness kit that brings 12 mounting adapters for the port end.
  • HRN-BS16S4: OBD-II extension pack for repositioning the GO device to where a bracket fits.

What Are Common Questions About the SPR-INSTALLBAG?

What comes in the SPR-INSTALLBAG?

Geotab lists a mounting bracket for the GO device plus two zip seals, two screws and double-sided tape for fixing the bracket. It does not include a harness, which is ordered separately for the vehicle.

Should the bracket be screwed or taped?

Geotab allows either the screws or the double-sided tape. We decide on site: tape on a clean, flat, solid panel, screws where the surface is textured, flexible or exposed to heat, after checking nothing sits behind it.

Is a bracket required for every GO install?

Geotab requires every in-vehicle device and its cabling to be securely fastened and kept clear of the controls. The bracket is one way to meet that rule; cable ties are another, and on many installs we use both.
