Geotab HRN-CK10K2 Harness

The HRN-CK10K2 is Geotab's custom harness kit for North American Mack trucks built in 2018 or earlier, wired at the fuse box bus bar and used with the HRN-CM24Y1-A. Model year decides whether it talks J1587 or J1939.

What Is the HRN-CK10K2?

The HRN-CK10K2 is a Geotab kit that wires a GO device into North American Mack trucks from model year 2018 and earlier, using terminals at the fuse box bus bar instead of the diagnostic port. Geotab packs the harness with a fuse kit, lists a harness length of 30 cm (12 in), and requires the HRN-CM24Y1-A to finish the connection to the device.

What makes this part different from most harnesses is the fork in the road. Geotab's 2006 to 2018 Mack guide splits the install into two paths. Trucks before 2008 send engine data over J1587, so the harness lands on serial terminals. Trucks from 2008 to 2018 carry J1939, so the harness goes in series with a 2-pin J1939 connector and its end-of-line resistor. The kit covers both, and the installer picks the path by model year.

The HRN-CK10K2 carries power, ground and both data options, with a 12-pin Molex for J1587 and a 6-pin Molex for J1939.

Which Vehicles and Devices Does the HRN-CK10K2 Work With?

Geotab lists the kit for North American Mack vehicles from 2018 or older. Its detailed guide covers 2006 to 2018 Mack trucks whose fuse box uses a terminal bus bar, and it states plainly that cab-over models are outside its scope. Geotab shows HRN-CK10A2 as the earlier part this kit replaced.

On the device side, everything runs through the HRN-CM24Y1-A, which carries the plug the GO unit connects to. The guide refers to a GO device generally rather than a single model, so we confirm the device generation for each truck before we load the van. For 2019 and newer Macks, Geotab moves the job to the HRN-CE10K2.

What Problem Does It Solve on the Job?

Older Mack trucks stay in service a long time, especially in vocational work, and fleets keep adding them to telematics programs years after the factory warranty is gone. These trucks also punish guesswork, because Geotab itself splits the data bus by model year.

A dedicated kit removes the guesswork. Wiring straight to the bus bar gives a clean power and ground, while the correct data path, J1587 or J1939, brings the engine data into MyGeotab. The diagnostic port stays open for the shop, and the GO device lives near the fuse box instead of dangling under the steering column.

How Is the HRN-CK10K2 Installed?

This outline follows Geotab's Mack 2006 to 2018 guide. Confirm the model year before starting, because steps four and five depend on it.

  1. Shut the truck down, keep the GO device unplugged, and remove the fuse box panel.
  2. Land the red BATT wire on bus bar pin 2 (Battery) and the black GND wire on pin 8 (Ground).
  3. Pre-2008, J1587 path: connect the brown +J1587 lead to pin 5 (Serial A) and the green -J1587 lead to pin 6 (Serial B), then join the black 12-pin Molex to the matching plug on the HRN-CM24Y1-A.
  4. 2008 to 2018, J1939 path: find the 2-pin J1939 connector, remove its end-of-line resistor, fit that resistor into the harness, and plug the harness into the truck side where the resistor sat. Then join the white 6-pin Molex to the HRN-CM24Y1-A.
  5. Connect the GO device, zip tie the device and harnesses, and mount the unit with its antenna facing up.
  6. Check that the device is communicating. Geotab's guide uses a green or red status from its install logging site; today we confirm the same thing in MyInstall and then watch the unit report in MyGeotab.

Whatever path you take, keep the joined harnesses inside Geotab's 2 m (6.5 ft) ceiling and avoid ever chaining two T-harnesses.

What Should You Watch for When Fitting It?

Mixing the paths is the classic mistake: the 12-pin Molex belongs only with the J1587 bus bar leads, and the 6-pin Molex belongs only with the J1939 connector and its resistor. Read the model year from the VIN plate, not from what the fleet remembers. Snug every bus bar terminal, because a loose ground on an older truck turns into an intermittent fault that is hard to chase later. Keep the resistor in the circuit on J1939 trucks, and do not use this procedure on a cab-over.

Which Related Harnesses Should You Compare?

  • HRN-CE10K2: the kit covering Volvo and Mack trucks from 2019 forward, which takes power from a fuse box plug.
  • HRN-CM24Y1-A: the required base harness with the 12-pin and 6-pin Molex connections.
  • HRN-DS09S4: a 9-pin straight harness for trucks where the Deutsch diagnostic port is the right connection.

What Are Common Questions About the HRN-CK10K2?

Can the HRN-CK10K2 go in a Mack cab-over?

Geotab's 2006 to 2018 Mack guide says it does not apply to cab-over models, so we treat those trucks as a separate job and check the cab-over procedure before ordering parts.

Which Molex plug on the HRN-CM24Y1-A does a Mack use?

It depends on the data path. Pre-2008 trucks wired on J1587 use the black 12-pin Molex, while 2008 to 2018 trucks wired on J1939 use the white 6-pin Molex.

What part number did the HRN-CK10K2 replace?

It took over from the HRN-CK10A2, according to Geotab, and the older name still appears inside the Mack install guide for the harness itself.

Older Macks deserve an installer who has seen plenty of fuse boxes. API Signal carries the HRN-CK10K2 and the matching base harness, sets them up on site at your yard and checks every truck before we leave. Dial 803-513-1009, or list your units on Get a Quote.
