Geotab HRN-CE10K2 Harness

The HRN-CE10K2 is a Geotab custom harness kit for North American Volvo and Mack heavy-duty trucks from 2019 on, supplied with a fuse kit and used together with the HRN-CM24Y1-A. It taps the J1939 backbone inside the fuse box instead of the diagnostic port.

What Is the HRN-CE10K2?

The HRN-CE10K2 is a Geotab kit that connects a GO device to Volvo and Mack heavy trucks from model year 2019 onward, built for the North American market, working through a fuse box connection rather than the cab diagnostic port. The kit holds the harness and a fuse kit, the harness measures 30 cm (12 in), and Geotab states that it must be paired with the HRN-CM24Y1-A.

It is the current part for this job. Geotab lists it as replacing the HRN-CE10A2 and the SPR-VOVKIT, and several of its install guides still use the older HRN-CE10A2 name for the harness inside the kit. If an older work order or a parts shelf shows those numbers, this is what you need now.

Which Vehicles and Devices Does the HRN-CE10K2 Work With?

Geotab's listing covers North American Volvo and Mack heavy-duty trucks, 2019 or newer, and backs that up with separate install documents for 2019+ Mack, 2019+ Volvo and the 2019+ Mack MR series cab-over. Geotab also files its 2004 to 2018 Volvo guide under this kit, so older Volvo conventionals are covered by the same part. Geotab's harness notes add that a universal HRN-GS16K22-A fitted with the HRN-CG13S1-A adapter can also work on these trucks.

The device side always passes through the HRN-CM24Y1-A, the base harness that holds the GO unit's connector. Geotab's online guide for this kit lists the GO9 as the hardware. Fleets moving to GO10 should talk to us first so we confirm the correct pairing before parts are ordered.

What Problem Does It Solve on the Job?

Volvo and Mack trucks run 12 volt systems with engines that Geotab treats as a special case on the 16-pin port. Tapping the J1939 backbone inside the fuse box avoids that issue entirely, and it leaves the diagnostic port clear for the shop's scan tool. The GO device ends up zip tied to the fuse box frame, out of the driver's legroom and hidden from casual tampering.

For a mixed fleet with some trucks on the older SPR-VOVKIT, it also means one current part number to stock for every Volvo and Mack from 2019 forward.

How Is the HRN-CE10K2 Installed?

Geotab's 2019+ Mack and Volvo guides share the same core moves, with the Volvo dash needing extra trim removal to reach a spare power plug:

  1. Park the truck, key off, and keep the GO device disconnected until the harness work is complete.
  2. Open the fuse box cover. On the 2019+ Mack, three T-25 screws hold it; on the 2019+ Volvo, a plastic trim tool lifts it, and the cover tabs can snap if forced.
  3. Plug the black 2-pin power T-cable into the vehicle power connector: BATT OPT on the Mack, or the spare B+ and GND plug on the Volvo, which must have its fuse fitted. The second end of the T-cable is only for daisy-chaining power.
  4. Pull the terminating resistor from the J1939 connector (DL1J1939 on the Volvo, never DL3J1939), plug it into the harness mating end, and connect the harness where the resistor was.
  5. Join the white 6-pin OBDII Molex on the kit harness to the matching plug on the HRN-CM24Y1-A.
  6. Connect the GO device, tie it to the harness, then fix it to the fuse box frame with two more ties, antenna side toward the sky.
  7. Dress the wiring so no fuse is blocked, run the install check and confirm the device in MyInstall and MyGeotab before closing the cover.

Hold the full connected run to 2 m (6.5 ft) at most; joining two T-harnesses is never allowed.

What Should You Watch for When Fitting It?

The terminating resistor is the part people lose or forget. If it does not go back into the harness mating end, the J1939 line is left without its end-of-line termination, which is no way to send a truck out of the yard. On a 2019+ Volvo, use DL1J1939 only. Check the spare power slot with a meter before trusting it, and confirm its fuse is present. Leave the second end of the power T-cable alone unless another accessory genuinely needs the daisy chain. On the MR cab-over, the work moves to the center console bus bar, so read that guide instead of the conventional one.

Which Related Harnesses Should You Compare?

  • HRN-CK10K2: the Mack kit for 2018 and older trucks, which uses fuse box bus bar terminals instead.
  • HRN-CM24Y1-A: the base harness this kit plugs into and cannot run without.
  • HRN-CG13S1-A: the 13-pin adapter that lets a universal 16-pin T-harness serve 12 volt Volvo and Mack engines.

What Are Common Questions About the HRN-CE10K2?

What does the HRN-CE10K2 replace?

Geotab names it as the successor to both the HRN-CE10A2 harness and the older SPR-VOVKIT, so a parts list that still shows either of those should now call for the HRN-CE10K2.

Does the HRN-CE10K2 work on its own?

No. Geotab requires the HRN-CM24Y1-A alongside it, because that base harness is what carries the GO device connection, and the two meet at matching white 6-pin Molex plugs marked OBDII.

Is the Mack MR cab-over installed the same way as a conventional Mack?

Not quite. Geotab's MR series guide places the work at the center console, where the red and black leads are cut, fused and ring-terminated onto the power bus bar, instead of using the fuse box BATT OPT plug.
