The Zonar LD is a plug-in tracker for light-duty vehicles. It goes into the OBD-II port with no splicing, and it still reports engine diagnostics. Here is what it does.

The Zonar LD is Zonar's plug-and-play telematics control unit for light-duty vehicles: cars, pickups, vans and SUVs. Instead of being wired into the vehicle like the Zonar V4, it plugs straight into the vehicle's OBD-II diagnostic port. Zonar's own description is that it needs no special tools, cables, wire splicing or antennas, and no vehicle downtime.
It reports into the same place as the rest of Zonar's main platform: Zonar Ignition, the web-based system fleet managers use on a computer or a phone.
The LD reads the vehicle's VIN on its own, so the unit identifies the vehicle it is plugged into. It has a store-and-forward mode that holds data when there is no cell signal and sends it once coverage returns, it runs on 4G LTE, it is rated for extreme temperatures, and it receives over-the-air updates.

The Zonar LD (model LD25-V01) has two lights: an amber Cellular light and a green GPS light. Tap any pattern below to see it on the drawing and hear what it means. Zonar notes an occasional red flash belongs to an unsupported function and can be ignored.

Each button plays the pattern on the drawing above, says out loud what it means, and tells you what to do.
A plug-in unit is quick, but where it sits still matters. On many vehicles the OBD-II port is low under the dash, right where a driver's knee or boot lands, and a unit that gets kicked loose stops reporting. Secure it so it cannot be knocked out, and if the port is shared with an ELD, a scan tool or another device, plan for that before the install rather than unplugging one to plug in the other. Afterward, confirm the unit shows up and reports a location before the vehicle leaves.
The LD fits fleets of cars, pickups, vans and SUVs that want location and engine diagnostics without hardwiring, such as field service, retail, delivery and passenger transport fleets. Heavy trucks with a 9-pin diagnostic port, and vehicles that need inputs for things like PTO, are better matched with the hardwired V4, so ask which unit fits each vehicle in a mixed fleet.
