We install vehicle GPS tracking, dash cams, backup cameras and telematics on City of Jacksonville fleets across Duval County, from Public Works crew trucks and Solid Waste units to fire apparatus and support vehicles, working at the Commonwealth Avenue shop, a fuel site or any city yard.
Jacksonville's government fleet is one of the biggest in the Southeast, and it is big for a simple reason: the city and the county are the same government. The Census Bureau puts the city at 747.29 square miles of land and 1,017,689 people on July 1, 2025, so city crews cover a lot of road between the shop, the job and the next job.
The Fleet Management Division looks after more than 4,000 pieces of equipment, everything from off-road machines to motorcycles. Its list includes the Sheriff's Office, Fire and Rescue apparatus, Solid Waste trucks, heavy equipment and light vehicles, and it also serves independent authorities and some state agencies. The main shop is at 2581 Commonwealth Avenue and runs from 6:30 in the morning until 11 at night on weekdays, with field service after hours for first responders. Nine city-owned fuel sites keep it all moving.
The money is real. The Council Auditor's summary of the 2025/26 budget puts the fleet fund at $72,913,537 and shows the council paying $28.8 million in cash for vehicle replacement rather than borrowing for it. Replacement on that scale means a steady flow of new units, and new units are the cheapest place to install fleet tracking, before the upfit is finished and the truck goes to a crew.
Public safety is the other large block. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue lists 65 fire stations, 65 engine companies and 65 rescue units on its fast facts page, and the 2025/26 budget added 23 positions and $19.1 million for new and replacement stations.
Every major telematics and dash cam platform, fitted at the main shop, a fuel site or a department yard anywhere in Duval County.
GPS fleet tracking on crew trucks, dump trucks, pickups and heavy equipment, plus battery trackers on trailers, message boards and generators.
Dash cam installation where a unit has none, and backup camera installation on dump trucks and solid waste units that reverse on residential streets.
Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Zonar and more, with body, PTO and door inputs wired where the city wants them.
Then we work with it, not around it. Some Public Works vehicles already carry a driver-facing video system that records position when the ignition turns on and off and when something like hard braking happens. A February 2026 Inspector General review used that position data to check take-home use against the city's executive order on vehicle use, and Public Works responded that it had put the recommended reminders and written approvals in place. Full GPS fleet tracking adds what event video does not: every stop, every route and the idle time at each address.
Yes, and that is one of the most useful things it does here. City fuel sites read mileage from tags mounted on the vehicles. A 2024 Inspector General data review of four months of fueling found large odometer gaps, one of them a jump of 570,641 miles, and recommended automatic checks and regular calibration of the equipment. A telematics gateway reports odometer and engine hours straight from the vehicle every day, which gives the fleet a second number to check the pump against.
We bring the work to the vehicles. With more than 4,000 units and nine fuel sites, it makes no sense to pull trucks to one place just for us. We schedule installs by yard or by department and fit them during the day shift or the evening hours the Commonwealth Avenue shop already keeps.
It does. After Hurricane Matthew in 2016 the city counted about 770,000 cubic yards of debris, and after Irma in 2017 it expected 800,000 to 1 million and opened 12 temporary debris sites. Vehicle location matters most in those weeks, so we aim to finish Solid Waste and Public Works installs before the season starts, not halfway through it.
City yards, fuel sites and fire stations across all of Duval County.
Main shop, fuel site, department yard or station: we install where the city's vehicles already go.
It depends on the mix. A light vehicle is a quick install, while dump trucks with body inputs and fire apparatus take longer, so we quote per unit type once we see the list.
No. We mount and power the GPS gateway on its own circuit and leave the existing video unit, its wiring and its mounting exactly as they are.
Yes. The shop runs until 11 at night on weekdays, and evening installs mean crews have their trucks back for the morning.
Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Zonar, Azuga and most others. We are an independent Geotab Authorized Installer and fit whichever platform the city has chosen.
Yes. Installing on new units at the shop, before the upfit is finished, is faster for everyone and keeps the wiring tidy.
