We install vehicle GPS tracking, AVL, dash cams, backup cameras and telematics on City of Tallahassee and Leon County fleets, from hybrid police cruisers and utility trucks to solid waste units and county mosquito control vehicles, at the city fleet shop or any department yard.
Tallahassee runs the fleet other cities study. In June 2025 the city was named the No. 1 Leading Fleet in the nation at the Government Fleet Expo and Conference. Its Fleet Management team looks after nearly 3,000 vehicles and pieces of equipment that log more than 1.1 million miles every month, with a replacement value Government Fleet put at $300 million. The shop is an authorized Ford warranty center and also keeps the StarMetro buses running.
A lot of those miles come from city-owned services. The city is the only garbage hauler inside its limits, with weekly garbage and recycling and every-other-week bulky and yard waste pickup. Its electric utility covers a 221 square mile territory with 3,600 miles of distribution line and more than 124,000 customers. And StarMetro is adding eight more electric buses, five chargers and a mobile fueling station with a federal grant of about $8.79 million.
The fleet is also changing what it runs on. Every new light duty purchase is hybrid or fully electric, the goal is a 100% hybrid or electric light duty fleet by 2035, and city vehicles have already logged over 1.6 million electric miles and 3.7 million hybrid miles. The city also aims to cut underused vehicles by 10% a year. That target needs good usage data, which is exactly what telematics records.
Leon County runs its own Fleet Management shop on North Blair Stone Road with more than 800 vehicles and pieces of equipment, including 27 hybrids, 16 electric vehicles and seven computerized mosquito control fogging units. We work for both.
Every major telematics and dash cam platform, fitted at the city fleet shop, a utility yard or a county site.
GPS fleet tracking and AVL on cruisers, utility trucks, solid waste units and county vehicles, plus battery trackers on trailers and portable equipment.
Dash cam installation on utility and public works trucks, and backup camera installation on solid waste and roll-off units working tight alleys.
Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Zonar and more, with engine hours and usage reports that feed right-sizing decisions.
As its own short stage, slotted in where the city wants it. Tallahassee Police received 87 hybrid police interceptors in one year after about three years of delayed orders, and none were ready for service on arrival. Instead of one upfitter working through them one at a time, the city split the work across four vendors handling different stages at once and put all 87 in service that same year. GPS and AVL installs fit that model well: we take one stage, finish it on each car and hand it to the next crew.
It changes how carefully. A hybrid has its own high voltage system, and we never go near it. Our unit takes fused power from the 12 volt side on an ignition source the upfitter agrees, and we keep our wiring clear of the lighting, siren and radio harnesses so each vendor's work stays separate and easy to service.
Real numbers per unit. Cutting underused vehicles by 10% a year means knowing which ones sit. Engine hours, trips per week and idle time show which units can be pooled, moved to another department or sold, and they show it for every vehicle, not just the ones someone remembers.
Because the utility trucks are busiest then. The city's 2024 season brought Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Debby and the May 10 tornadoes, and the fleet keeps extra movable fuel tanks for storm response. We schedule utility installs in batches outside those weeks so restoration crews keep their trucks.
City fleet and utility yards, StarMetro, and Leon County sites across the county.
Fleet shop, utility yard or county site: we install where the vehicles are already serviced.
Per vehicle, by type. A light duty hybrid is quicker than a cruiser mid-upfit or a line truck with boom inputs, so we price each group once we see the vehicle list and the platform.
Yes. We take the AVL and GPS stage, keep to the schedule the city sets with the other upfitters and pass each car on finished and tested.
Yes. We power units from the 12 volt system on a fused circuit and never touch the high voltage system.
Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Zonar, Azuga and other platforms. We are an independent Geotab Authorized Installer, and the city keeps the choice of platform.
Yes. We install on county fleets as well, at the county fleet shop on North Blair Stone Road or at department sites.
