We install vehicle GPS tracking, dash cams, backup cameras and telematics on City of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County fleets, from public works dump trucks and utility vans to code compliance hybrids and county vac trucks, working at the city fleet yard, a county fleet shop or the department's own site.
Fort Lauderdale does fleet maintenance differently from most Florida cities. It has outsourced it since 1981. One contractor handles service, maintenance and the daily running of the fuel sites and car wash, another supplies parts, and Fleet Services in Public Works oversees both from 220 SW 14th Avenue, behind the police station off West Broward Boulevard. The city runs three fuel sites of its own.
The fleet itself is broad. Staff told the Sustainability Advisory Board in April 2025 that it is about 1,800 vehicles, from mowers to ladder trucks, burning about 1.4 million gallons of fuel a year. Fire Rescue alone runs 12 stations with 12 suppression units, 3 aerial ladder trucks, 17 medical rescue units, a heavy rescue squad, a hazmat unit, an airport response truck and two fireboats.
The city also runs its own water and sewer system, with more than 1,400 miles of mains and lines across a 38 square mile service area. Those crews, and the stormwater crews that cleaned 529,123 linear feet of pipe in the City Manager's first year, are the trucks we see most.
Broward County Fleet Services maintains about 2,500 more vehicles and pieces of equipment, from sedans to sweepers, vac trucks and boats, out of three shops: SW 4th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, Blount Road in Pompano Beach and the County Landfill.
Every major telematics and dash cam platform, installed at the fleet yard, a county shop or the job site.
GPS fleet tracking on dump trucks, utility vans, pickups, hybrids and heavy equipment, plus battery trackers on pumps, trailers and generators.
Road-facing and driver-facing AI dash cams, and backup camera installation on dump trucks and vac trucks backing into tight streets and alleys.
Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Zonar and more, with idle reports, PTO and body inputs where you need them.
With Fleet Services and the maintenance contractor together. Because the contractor runs the shop and the fuel sites, the easiest install window is the vehicle's own service visit. We agree a schedule with both, fit units in the bays the contractor sets aside, and leave a record of every serial number and VIN so the city's own files stay complete.
Yes, and it is one of the simplest reports to set up. The city asks drivers to turn engines off after 30 seconds of idling, and with about $4.2 million a year going on fuel, idle time is money. A GPS unit reads engine hours and speed, so the platform can count every stop where the engine ran longer than that and total it by truck and department.
Not the same, but they can get vehicle location. The 476 marked police vehicles are take-home units kept ready around the clock, which is why staff left them out of the EV conversion plan. On those we fit AVL hardware for automatic vehicle location and keep our wiring away from in-car video, lighting and siren circuits.
It decides it. The city handed out 4,040 pre-filled sandbags and ran Emergency Operations Center training before last season. Utility, stormwater and public works trucks are the ones called out first, so we plan their installs for the quiet months and keep enough of each crew's trucks on the road while we work.
City of Fort Lauderdale sites, Broward County fleet shops and the cities around them.
City yard, county shop or job site: we install where the vehicles are serviced or parked.
Per vehicle, by type. Pickups and sedans are quick; dump trucks with body inputs, vac trucks and police units take longer. Give us the counts and the platform and we will send a per-unit quote.
Yes. We coordinate with Fleet Services and the maintenance contractor and install in the bays and time slots they give us.
Yes. Most platforms let you set the idle threshold, so the report counts every stop over 30 seconds by vehicle and department.
Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Zonar, Azuga and most other brands. We are an independent Geotab Authorized Installer and fit the platform the city or county already uses.
