API Signal installs fleet GPS trackers, dash cameras and telematics for businesses in Mount Pleasant and east of the Cooper River, at the yard, the storage lot or the tech's own driveway. From the Old Village to Isle of Palms, Awendaw and McClellanville, our work covers trades running 1 to 10 vehicles, the crews that service the beach islands, port carriers on Long Point Road and utility contractors on US 17 north.
Home service trades, island service crews, port carriers and utility contractors. The Census Bureau estimated Mount Pleasant's population at 95,469 on July 1, 2025, up 4.9% from 2020. Its 2020 to 2024 survey put owner occupancy at 73.6% and the median owner-occupied home value at $748,500. The town has capped permits for new homes since 2019 under an allocation system that council extended in 2024 for five more years. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, pool, pest and landscape companies work on those homes, and we install for them whether they run 1 to 10 vehicles or many more.
On the beach islands, rental houses add to that work. The City of Isle of Palms counted 4,549 dwelling units as of June 30, 2026, and 1,657 of them, 36%, held a short-term rental license. The cleaners, linen vans, pool techs and repair trucks that keep those houses rentable reach the island by one of two bridges, and so do the crews working Sullivan's Island next door.
The town also has a working waterfront. Wando Welch, which SC Ports calls its largest container terminal, sits at 400 Long Point Road, and the port lists 15 ship-to-shore cranes there. On Shem Creek, the town bought the shrimp docks and the adjoining processing house in 2019 for more than $4 million, then put over $3 million into repairs and upgrades, including a fully renovated fish house.
North of town the fleets change again. US 17 runs on through Awendaw to the village of McClellanville. Berkeley Electric Cooperative keeps a district office on US 17 in Awendaw. In July 2026 the co-op said part of McClellanville was served by a single power line running 24 miles, and that federal approval of a route had cleared the way for a new transmission line: about two years of design and land work, then two of construction. On line, tree and right-of-way trucks we wire boom and PTO inputs in with the tracker.
All the major platforms, fitted for the way work moves east of the Cooper: over a swing bridge and the Isle of Palms Connector, out of driveways and storage lots, and on clocks that change from one island to the next.
Hardwired trackers on service vans, pickups and day cabs, battery-backed trackers on tool and mower trailers, and geofences on Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, the Ben Sawyer Bridge and the Connector, so a crossing, a wait at the swing span and a job each show up as separate events.
Forward-facing cameras that capture the gates coming down at the Ben Sawyer or a lane shift on Highway 41, and rear cameras for pickups and box trucks backing trailers into narrow island driveways.
Samsara, Motive, Lytx, Verizon Connect, Netradyne, Geotab, CalAmp, Powerfleet and more, with PTO and boom inputs on bucket and chipper trucks, door and temperature inputs on refrigerated bodies, and arrival and departure reports by island and by time of day.
Cross in the weekday hours when the draw is not required to open, and let the tracker time everything else. The federal drawbridge rule for the Ben Sawyer Bridge on SC 703, 33 CFR 117.911(c), says the draw need not open from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, federal holidays excepted. On Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays it need open only on the hour between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. At other times it opens on signal. In September 2026 SCDOT's district bridge engineer told The Post and Courier an opening averages about eight minutes. The paper counted at least four unexpected closures in July 2026, one of nearly an hour, with a malfunctioning traffic arm reported behind two.
We draw a geofence on the bridge approaches and another on the Isle of Palms Connector, the only other road to the islands. Time stopped inside the bridge zone is then reported as a bridge wait, not as idling or an unexplained stop, and dispatch sees live when a van is held and which crossing the next one should use. A road-facing camera records the lowered gates, which settles a late-arrival dispute fast.
Wherever each one spends the night: the van in the driveway, the trailers and heavier trucks at the yard or storage lot. Mount Pleasant's zoning code, section 156.305, lets up to one commercial vehicle be parked or stored outside in a residential area, and names standard size vans, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks as the acceptable kinds. Dump trucks, wreckers, utility trucks, tractor-trailer rigs, field service trucks and delivery trucks are prohibited in residential areas, and so are open or enclosed trailers whose principal purpose is to store or haul business tools, materials or equipment.
That splits a trades fleet with trailers in two. The tech's van or pickup gets a hardwired tracker and camera at the house before the first call. The trailer has no ignition and no driver, so it gets its own tracker with an internal battery, wired to the trailer plug so it recharges whenever it is hitched, and a geofence on the storage lot records when it leaves and when it comes back. Both halves go on one schedule.
Put each island's clock on its geofence. Sullivan's Island's contractor ordinance, section 5-12, allows work from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, with none on Sundays or on six named holidays, for contractors, subcontractors, landscapers, suppliers and vendors alike. Isle of Palms limits loud equipment to 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and bars a truck or trailer over 20 feet long from parking on a street right-of-way for more than an hour, loading and unloading aside. Mount Pleasant's noise rule, section 132.03, exempts lawn care equipment only from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
We give each island a geofence with its own schedule, so the platform alerts the office when a truck is inside before opening time or still there near the cutoff, and a weekly report lists first arrival and last departure by island. On bucket, chipper and dump trucks we wire the PTO input, which timestamps when the equipment ran and not only when the truck was parked. Sullivan's Island has also posted dates for gas-powered leaf blowers, trimmers and edgers: none on Saturdays from June 16, 2027, and none at any time from June 16, 2028. A Saturday report by island shows which crews need battery tools first.
With a geofence at each end of the corridor. Charleston County's Highway 41 project takes the two-lane road to four lanes over about five miles between US 17 and the Wando River bridge, narrowing to three lanes through the Phillips community, and adds Laurel Hill Parkway, a new two-lane road about a mile long over to Park West Boulevard. In August 2026 the county planned to seek bids that fall and break ground in early 2027, and its State Infrastructure Bank grant requires the project to be finished by 2031.
Dunes West, Park West, RiverTowne and Planter's Pointe are among the subdivisions on the corridor. Those two geofences give the platform ordinary drive times by hour of day. Set before the first lane shift, that record is the baseline. Once work is under way, the same report shows what each phase adds to a trip, the number a service-call price should rest on. A road-facing camera covers the other exposure in a long work zone: shifted lanes, flaggers and sudden stops.
Charleston County east of the Cooper River, from the harbor up US 17:
Driveway, storage lot, dock or carrier yard, from the Ravenel Bridge to McClellanville: the vehicles stay where they are kept and we come to them.
Yes. A three-van job is wired and tested exactly as a hundred-truck rollout is. We plan an early visit, before the vans leave for the islands, at the house where each van is kept and at the lot where the trailers stay.
Verizon Connect, Motive, Geotab, Samsara, Powerfleet, Lytx, CalAmp, Netradyne and others. API Signal is independent, so the platform is your choice, and we also offer equipment. For tool and mower trailers kept at storage lots, we fit the asset tracker that pairs with the platform on your trucks.
Only on race morning. The 2027 run is on Saturday, April 3. For that date the organizers list Coleman Boulevard closing from 3:00 a.m. between Fairmont Avenue and Hibben Street, the whole Ravenel Bridge closing at 7:00 a.m. and the bridge reopening around 11:00 a.m. We keep installs for Old Village and Coleman Boulevard businesses off race morning, whatever the year.
At your yard, a few tractors at a time, so the rest keep turning. In October 2026 SC Ports listed the Wando Welch container gates as open from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. We start with the units that are off the board and set a geofence on the Long Point Road gate so every turn is timed.
Yes. We install across Mount Pleasant from the Old Village to Carolina Park, on both beach islands, and up US 17 through Awendaw to McClellanville. Typical scheduling is 3 to 5 days out, on the islands as on the mainland.
