The base drives more truck traffic than anything else in the county, and it is still being rebuilt. Camp Lejeune covers about 156,000 acres. Hurricane Florence damaged more than 800 of its facilities in 2018, and the Marine Corps has been working through a $3.6 billion recovery program since. As of October 2024 the base reported 80% of that site construction complete, with 30 more projects under way. General contractors and their electrical, mechanical, roofing and paving subcontractors move trucks and equipment between yards in town and sites on base every day.

Base housing keeps its own fleets busy. More than 5,100 homes on the installation changed operators in October 2024, and the maintenance vans, HVAC trucks and grounds crews that look after them are on base five days a week.

Off base, Jacksonville's trades look like any other city's, only closer together. The Census Bureau estimates the city at 72,732 people and Onslow County at 217,175 in July 2025, up from 204,576 in 2020, with an average commute of 15 minutes. Plumbers, electricians, heating and air companies, lawn services and pest control companies with 1 to 10 vehicles cover the county from a shop on Western Boulevard or Lejeune Boulevard, or from home.

Movers and utilities round it out. Every summer the military moving season fills local carriers' trucks. The electric cooperative headquartered on Western Boulevard serves more than 84,000 members over 2,400 miles of line in six counties, the county water and sewer authority runs its own service trucks, and both rely on line, tree and pipe contractors.

What We Install in Jacksonville

Set up for gate hours, base rules and short county runs

We install the platform you already use, or the one your prime contractor requires, and set it up for work that crosses a guarded fence line several times a day.

GPS Fleet Tracking

Hardwired trackers on service vans, pickups, dump trucks and movers' straight trucks, with a geofence on each gate you use, so time in the inspection line, time on base and time on the job are reported separately.

Dash & Backup Cameras

Road-facing and driver-facing cameras for vehicles on Western Boulevard, US 17 and NC 24, and rear cameras on moving vans and service bodies. For trucks that go aboard the installation, we confirm the base's current position on recording devices with your sponsor before cameras are installed.

Telematics & Integrations

Lytx, Netradyne, Powerfleet, CalAmp, Geotab, Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect and more, with speed thresholds set for on-base limits, alerts tied to gate hours, and vehicles marked by whether they hold base credentials, so dispatch routes each one correctly.

Jacksonville-Specific Considerations

What makes fleet installs in Jacksonville different?

Which gate should dispatch send a work truck to, and when?

It depends on the hour, and the platform should know the hours. Camp Lejeune's contractor instructions say all commercial vehicles must be inspected each time they enter. Inspections are done at the Piney Green Gate from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and at the Sneads Ferry Gate around the clock; at the air station it is the Curtis Gate, also around the clock. The driver needs an approved credential, or a government escort, before the truck reaches the inspection lane. Other gates keep their own hours: the Main Gate on Holcomb Boulevard is always open, while the Triangle Outpost Gate on the Hubert side has been weekdays-only since March 2024.

We draw a geofence on each gate your trucks use, and on the approach to Piney Green we add a zone with a time window, so a truck entering it after the inspection lane's hours raises an alert while there is still time to send it to Sneads Ferry. The same geofences split every trip into inspection queue, time aboard and time at the job, which shows what each gate costs you and which crews lose the most time getting in.

Does the base's 10 mph rule show up in a speeding report?

Parts of it do, once they are set up. The base traffic order sets limits a commercial map does not always carry: 10 mph when passing troops in formation or on the march, 10 mph in parking areas, 25 mph in housing, industrial areas and on unpaved roads, and 55 mph as the maximum anywhere unless a sign says otherwise. Phones may be used hands-free only, and radar detectors are prohibited.

A platform using default map speeds is liable to miss a van doing 35 through a housing area. For fleets that work aboard the installation we set the 25 mph housing limit and the 55 mph maximum as speed rules inside base geofences. The 10 mph rules depend on the situation, so those go into your driver briefings. A driver-facing camera, where you choose to add one, records phone use the same way it does off base. Traffic violations aboard the installation are dealt with by the base, so these are settings worth having right from the first day.

Sneads Ferry to Hubert looks short on the map. Why does the trip take so long?

Because the direct road runs through the base and has been closed to the public since 2007. NC 172 crosses Camp Lejeune between the Sneads Ferry Gate and the Triangle Outpost Gate. General through traffic ended on February 5, 2007, and drivers without base access go around by NC 210, US 17 and NC 24 through Jacksonville.

Routing software often knows none of this, and a fleet with some credentialed trucks and some without needs two answers to the same trip. Where the platform supports restricted zones, we apply one to the trucks without base access. On the others we set a base geofence and mark which vehicles hold credentials, so dispatch sees which trucks may use NC 172 and plans the long way for the rest.

We move military families. When should the trucks be done?

Before the middle of May. The Marine Corps set its peak moving season at May 15 to August 31 in its 2024 guidance and asks families to book about 90 days ahead. For a local carrier those fifteen weeks are the busiest of the year, and no truck has a spare morning in them.

We plan movers' installs for March and April, yard by yard. Straight trucks and tractors get trackers and road-facing cameras, and a rear camera where the crew backs up to quarters and narrow driveways. During the season the trip history gives you arrival and departure times at every pickup and delivery, which is the record you want when a customer questions a date.

Questions From Jacksonville Fleet Managers

What do Jacksonville fleet managers ask us?

Do you install for Jacksonville businesses with 1 to 10 vehicles?

Yes. Five vans get what ninety trucks get: experienced installers, connections made at fused points and a live test before we leave. A fleet of 1 to 10 is normally one visit to the shop or the owner's home, timed with you so the first calls still go out.

Which GPS and camera platforms do you install around Jacksonville?

CalAmp, Samsara, Motive, Geotab, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Powerfleet and more. We are an independent installer, so the choice is yours. If a project specification names a system, we install that one, or add it to what you run already.

Does the base ever close NC 172 to credentialed traffic too?

Yes, at times. The base announced a closure of NC 172 and Marines Road from 5 to 10 a.m. on September 30, 2026 because of smoke from the impact area, with drivers sent to the Wilson Gate. A geofence on the road shows which of your trucks were caught by a closure, and dispatch has the long way around saved for those mornings.

Western Boulevard is under construction. Does that change an install at our shop there?

It changes the hour. NCDOT is rebuilding the Western Boulevard intersection at Jacksonville Parkway in an $8.5 million project that began in late October 2025 and is due to be substantially complete in summer 2027. That road carried between 26,600 and 43,500 vehicles a day in 2023. For shops along it we arrive before the morning traffic builds and are finished before your vans need to get out.

Do you cover Richlands, Swansboro, Sneads Ferry and Holly Ridge?

Yes. We work throughout Onslow County, including Hubert, Midway Park and Piney Green, down to North Topsail Beach and Surf City, and up to Maysville in Jones County. Vehicles kept in several places are booked as one job.
