Cabarrus County is growing quickly. The Census Bureau's July 2025 estimates put Concord at 114,598 residents, up 8.8% since 2020, and the county at 249,725, up 10.6%. New houses and shopping centers bring electricians, plumbers, HVAC companies, landscapers and roofers, and most of those businesses run 1 to 10 vehicles from a shop off Concord Parkway or from the owner's home in Harrisburg or Mount Pleasant.

Manufacturing has come back to the old Philip Morris site, now called The Grounds at Concord. Lilly opened a plant there in June 2024 at a cost of more than $2 billion, and Red Bull, Rauch and Ball broke ground next door in September 2025 on a 2.3 million square foot beverage campus that is due to start production in 2028. Around them is a ring of vendors, maintenance contractors and carriers, all running vehicles in and out of secured gates.

The county has long-standing industrial fleets as well. Corning's optical fiber plant near Midland dates from the 1990s and runs a continuous schedule, and a rail-served logistics park at Midland moves bulk goods from railcars to trucks. Parcel and food-service distribution in Concord and Kannapolis adds box trucks and tractors, and the regional hospital in Concord keeps medical, courier and facilities contractors on the road.

Then there is Exit 49. Charlotte Motor Speedway, the zMAX Dragway and Concord Mills, with more than 200 stores and about 7,200 parking spaces, share one interchange: Concord Mills Boulevard on one side of I-85 and Bruton Smith Boulevard on the other. The delivery vans, service trucks, shuttles and maintenance crews that work those venues deal with traffic no other part of the county sees.

What We Install in Concord

Set up for plant gates, event weeks and a growing county

We install the platform you choose and configure it for the things that make Concord different from the rest of the metro: a year-round event calendar at Exit 49, new plants with gates to log, and roads being rebuilt to carry the growth.

GPS Fleet Tracking

Hardwired trackers on service vans, pickups and box trucks, ELD-capable units on tractors, and battery-powered trackers on the trailers local carriers leave at plant docks, so every trailer and how long it has sat is on one map.

Dash & Backup Cameras

Road-facing and driver-facing cameras for vehicles that work the Exit 49 corridor and I-85 every day, and rear cameras on box trucks and service bodies that back into retail loading bays, plant docks and crowded lots.

Telematics & Integrations

Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect, Lytx, Netradyne, Geotab, Powerfleet, CalAmp and more, with alternate waypoints saved for event weeks, geofences around plant and venue sites, and time-of-day reports that show what an evening event costs in drive time.

Concord-Specific Considerations

What makes fleet installs in Concord different?

Why do our vans keep ending up in the Bruton Smith Boulevard jam?

Because the navigation is sending them there, and NCDOT says so itself. In its traffic advisory for the Coca-Cola 600 in May 2026, the department wrote that Bruton Smith Boulevard "often sees the most traffic volume because mobile direction services and GPS devices typically direct users to this route," and told drivers to use US 29 instead. It also warned of heavier traffic on I-85, US 29, NC 49 and Bruton Smith Boulevard throughout race week, not only on race day.

A service van follows the same phone or dash navigation as the race fans. For event weeks we make two changes in the platform. First, we add US 29 for the speedway side and I-485 Exit 28 at Mallard Creek Road for Concord Mills, the route NCDOT gave mall traffic for the fall 2025 race, as waypoints dispatch sends with the job, so the driver's navigation follows the alternate. Second, we put a geofence on Bruton Smith Boulevard that reports time spent inside it. A week of that data shows whether your drivers are being routed into the queue, and what it costs.

Which weeks are busiest near the speedway?

Event traffic runs most months, so we time installs for mornings and the weeks between events. The speedway, its dirt track and the dragway across the road all hold them. From late October 2026 the list runs: the World Short Track Championship on October 29 to 31; the World of Outlaws World Finals on November 4 to 7; Speedway Christmas from November 20 to January 3, every night from 6 to 10 p.m.; the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals on April 2 to 4, 2027; AutoFair on April 8 to 10; and the Coca-Cola 600 weekend on May 28 to 30.

For a yard near Exit 49 we set install days between events, and during Speedway Christmas we come in the morning, since the track itself advises visitors to avoid Friday and Saturday nights in December. If your crews are in that area after dark, a time-of-day report for November and December shows what the light show adds to each trip, and whether late calls there belong in the morning.

Poplar Tent Road is getting a median. What does that do to our yard and our stops?

It changes how trucks get in and out, which changes routes and where a stop is recorded. NCDOT plans to widen Poplar Tent Road from two lanes to four, starting with the funded section that ends at George W. Liles Parkway, on a corridor that links I-85 and the regional airport with Concord. NCDOT's design shows a raised median 23 to 30 feet wide, a continuous flow intersection at George Liles Parkway, and roundabouts and reduced-conflict intersections elsewhere. Right-of-way purchase began in 2025, and local reporting puts the start of construction in 2027.

A raised median ends left turns across traffic. A truck leaving a yard on the wrong side turns right and comes back at the next opening, on every trip, and the same goes for your customers' driveways. When that happens we redraw the site geofences and update saved stops to match the new approach, so arrivals still register and the extra distance is not blamed on the driver. If we install before construction starts, we note which of your sites sit on the corridor, so the changes are quick when the time comes.

A three-billion-can plant is coming. What should a local carrier do before it opens?

Have the trucks and trailers reporting before the volume arrives. The beverage campus at The Grounds at Concord is planned to produce about three billion cans a year, with more than 170,000 pallet positions on site and operations beginning in 2028. With Lilly's plant already running beside it, that is a large amount of freight and vendor traffic for one address.

A carrier adding tractors for that work is better served by having each one installed as it joins the fleet than by a rush job in the week the freight starts moving. We install ELD-capable units and cameras at your terminal, put battery-powered trackers on trailers so you know where each one is and how long it has sat at a dock, and set geofences around the sites. Cargo sensors show loaded or empty where you want that. Vendors and maintenance contractors serving the same sites get site geofences and time-on-site reports from their first visit.

Questions From Concord Fleet Managers

What do Concord fleet managers ask us?

We have 1 to 10 vehicles in Concord. Is that a job for you?

Yes. Four trucks and two trailers are done to the same standard as seventy tractors: fused connections, labelled harnesses and a live test on each unit. We normally need one visit, at your shop or your home, on a morning that works for your crews.

Which telematics and camera brands do you install in Cabarrus County?

Lytx, Netradyne, Powerfleet, CalAmp, Geotab, Samsara, Motive, Verizon Connect and more. We are an independent installer, so you are not tied to one. If a customer's site rules call for a particular system, we install that one, or add it beside the one you already have.

Does race traffic affect vans working Concord Mills?

Yes, because the mall and the speedway share Exit 49. For the fall 2025 race weekend NCDOT told mall traffic to use I-485 Exit 28 at Mallard Creek Road. For delivery and service fleets with accounts at the mall, we save that approach as a waypoint and set a geofence with a time-of-day report, which is most useful from late November, when holiday shopping and Speedway Christmas fall in the same evenings.

NC 73 is being widened too. Will that touch our routes?

If you run between Concord, Davidson and Huntersville, yes. NCDOT plans to widen 14 miles of NC 73 from two lanes to four across the Mecklenburg and Cabarrus line. The section that reaches Poplar Tent Road is in right-of-way purchase, and the next one, from Poplar Tent Road to US 29, is not yet funded. We group the geofences on that corridor at setup so they are simple to adjust as each section is built.

Do you cover Kannapolis, Harrisburg, Midland and Mount Pleasant?

Yes. We install throughout Cabarrus County and across the line into China Grove and Landis in Rowan County and Locust in Stanly County. Vehicles kept in several towns are scheduled as one job.
