The IOX-AUXM lets MyGeotab see when equipment on a vehicle switches on or off, from a PTO to a siren to a bucket boom. Here is how it reads those signals and how a clean install is done.

A GPS device knows where a truck is and what the engine is doing. It does not know whether the dump body is raised, the beacon is flashing or the rear door is open. The IOX-AUXM fills that gap. It is an IOX expansion module with four auxiliary inputs that connect to switched circuits on the vehicle, so the GO device can log each one as on or off with a time and location.
Each input is wired to a circuit that changes state when the equipment operates. A second IOX-AUXM can be added to the first for eight inputs in total, with the second unit reporting as Aux 5 to 8.
Geotab publishes a standard input map by vocation, and following it keeps data consistent across a fleet. Examples from that map:
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Inputs | 4 per unit (Aux 1 to 4); 8 with a second unit (Aux 5 to 8) |
| Circuit types | Ground to float, ground to driven, float to driven, auto-detected |
| Logic thresholds | Low below 100 mV; high above 3.3 V (driven circuits) |
| Input impedance | 30.3 kΩ or 80.6 kΩ depending on voltage range |
| Circuit limits | Driving circuit resistance under 100 Ω; capacitive load under 200 pF; common ground required |
| Input voltage | 12 V / 24 V nominal |
| Current draw | 40 mA typical, 100 mA maximum operating; 0.4 mA sleep |
| Input connector | Molex 8-pin, 43020-0800 |
| Overall length | 1140 mm; leads reach about 3.5 ft from the GO device |
| Weight | 46 g |
| Operating temperature | -40 °C to +85 °C |
| Compatibility | GO7 and newer; Base, Pro, ProPlus and Regulatory plans |
Geotab requires a certified or equally qualified installer for this module, and most of the work is finding the right wire. Each input needs a circuit that cleanly changes state with the equipment, shares ground with the IOX, and meets the resistance and capacitance limits. The leads reach roughly three and a half feet from the GO device, so a PTO switch at the back of a cab often needs an extension. Self-learning has to start with every input in its off state. With the GO device in debug mode, each input is cycled on and off one at a time, and the device beeps the input number for both changes. If the beeps never come, Geotab's guidance is to unplug the GO device for about a minute and try again. For a second unit, the red and black loop is cut before it goes into the chain so it reports as Aux 5 to 8, and only the last IOX keeps its termination shunt.
The IOX-AUXM fits any vocational fleet that needs to prove when equipment ran: utilities, municipalities, emergency services, school transport, public works and construction. It is an input device only. If the goal is to switch something on the vehicle from MyGeotab, such as a light or a buzzer, the IOX-OUTPUTM is the right module. If the equipment sends data such as temperatures or weights rather than a simple on and off, look at the IOX-RS232 or IOX-CAN.
Yes, as long as the input is wired to a circuit that changes with PTO engagement. Each on and off event is logged, and MyGeotab rules and reports can be built from those events.
The input can be inverted in the asset's IOX and auxiliaries settings. If the circuit type itself was learned wrong, the learning step is repeated or the type is set manually.
Geotab calls it mandatory for consistent fleet data, and we follow it so reports line up across every vehicle. We can supply and install the modules and wire each input to the matching circuit.
API Signal supplies IOX-AUXM modules and wires each input on site at your yard, following Geotab's input map so every truck reports the same way. Call 803-513-1009 or request pricing through Get a Quote.
